Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

I had a lovely two night stay here. The neighbourhood was convenient (not far from downtown, beaches in Oak Bay etc.). I didn't have to share a bathroom with anyone and I generally had the upper floor of the unit to myself. Aleigh was responsive and easy to communicate with. Would stay there again!

I had the pleasure of staying at Liliane’s place in Saanich, Victoria for just one night, and even though it was a short stay, it exceeded all my expectations. The location is very convenient—easy to get around by public buses—which made exploring the area simple and stress-free. The bedroom and bathroom were exceptionally clean, cozy, and peaceful, offering the perfect environment for a restful night. I especially appreciated Liliane’s flexibility with check-in and check-out times, which made my travel experience much smoother. Her thoughtful gesture of leaving a cookie treat was such a sweet surprise—although we didn’t get to meet in person, I could feel the warmth and care in her hospitality. I only wish I had more time to stay longer! There’s still so much I want to see in Victoria, and I would absolutely love to return and stay at Liliane’s place again in the future. Highly recommended.

It's been a great experience to stay in Min's place and we enjoy so much for the trip aiming to see Canadian Swim Trials 2025 in Victoria. We arrived very late in the evening and Jing was so kind to wait for us to get in the house and told us in details the house rules. We extremely enjoyed the time to cook the seafood in house instructed and taught by cool cooking experience by Min and Jing. Without a doubt, the crab and red spot prawns were so so delicious. The place was neat and clean and we felt like home. Thanks again, Min and Jing! We will definitely come back again in near future!!

Lovely place to stay. Very organized and well thought out. Steven and his staff were super helpful when we had a bit of a predicament and were very flexible to help accommodate our situation. Delicious and affordable breakfast that was super convenient, and a view of the castle from the dining room was a nice surprise. Will definitely stay there again
