5 minutes from the beach; the mouth of the Rakaia River, a well known salmon fishing site; and Lake Ellesmere Waihora; on a working farm growing saffron, walnuts and forestry. Picturesque Lake Ellesmere is across the road, with 50,000 birds at last count making it a bird watchers haven.
