Incredibly warm and nice welcome. I got picked up at the airport, coffee and breakfast made in the morning. Good company, friendly and helpful host. The place feels very spacious and relaxing, clean and everything you’d need in terms of kitchen, bathroom and bedroom.

We regretted not staying longer. The highlight of the stay was the weaving and dyeing factory. Mieko kindly showed us around and was extremely passionate about the craft. We wish we had more time to stay and weave/dye our own clothing. I highly recommend staying a longer time and to also immerse yourself in this once of a lifetime experience that they offer.

Villa in Kirishima

Ai-TingRating, 5 stars2 days ago
This is a luxurious place for two people. Whether in the morning or at night, the view from the balcony is spectacular. The furniture is brand new with high-tech design. However, it was a bit inconvenient for six people to stay (two of us were to stay on a small sofa bed). But the host solved our problem instantly by delivering a futon to us.

Cabin in Takaharu

Lovely place to stay, really friendly staff. We planned to camp here but because a rain storm was on the way we decided to stay in this cabin. It’s really well kept, pretty much a room with fold out tatami foutons, a fridge and a table. Also air con, you have to pay but just ¥100 for a couple hours which isn’t bad, showers in a block are also paid for: ¥200 for 5 mins. Toilets are part of the camp site, underneath the cabin is a picnic bench where we cooked. Basically it’s camping but with a roof, if you came to this cabin without any facilities to cook food I don’t think it would be great. To be honest it’s fairly expensive for what it is, but the location is beautiful, easy drive to hikes around Kirishima and the facilities are all clean. Downside for me was swimming in the lake is forbidden :( So overall, I’d definitely recommend. Especially if you need to not get soaked from the rain.
