What you'll do
I will pick you up from the bus stop in Veikkola - you can take bus number 280 from Helsinki, which leaves from Kamppi bus terminal at 9.49 am (the cost is 6.40 € one way if you buy the ticket for an automatic teller). We will drive about 5 km to Nuuksio National park, the entry point being at the South-Western side of Nuuksio, which means there is hardly any people and certainly no tourists around. This is something very different from going to the Espoo (South-Eastern) side on Nuuksio where there are hundreds of tourists, lost of noise and paths wide enough for a car to drive. We will take the small paths, and very likely not meet anyone during the walk! It will be quiet, peaceful, enchanting, and we will have the possibility to choose whether we want to walk slowly, maybe picking blueberries (bilberry), lingonberries on mushrooms, maybe going for a swim, listening to the birds or taking a closer look at the flora and fauna of the area. Or, if we want to walk a bit faster, taking a more brisk attitude and enjoying the rugged paths and the scenery. We will have our senses open to the fresh fragrances of the plants, the birdsong, all the beauty and serenity we see around us. After the walk, I'll take you back to Veikkola to catch the bus back to Helsinki. Check out my blog: http://www.discovernuuksio.com
I will bring coffee and oat milk for the coffee. Please bring you own food/snack you need for the hike, we will have a break…
I am a biologist, ever since childhood, I have wanted to spend time and understand nature. I have a PhD in evolutionary ecology and I specialized in animal behaviour. Since I have done lots of fieldwork, I am very familiar with the secrets of the taiga forest. I left my research career over 10 years ago to have more adventure and to find deeper meaning in life. Now my adventures are right here in Finnish nature, every day! I live close to Nuuksio and hike there with my dog usually every week, sometimes also picking blueberries or mushrooms. I have learned to know the secret paths, hidden swimming places and beautiful yet quiet places to relax. I am also a certified mindfulness teacher. I strongly believe nature to be the highest teacher of mindfulness, and I promise your mind will be more at peace after the hike.

Where you'll be
Nuuksio National Park is a wide forested area full of little lakes. We choose the route according to the wishes of the participants but will stay in the quiet South-Western part of Nuuksio. We can choose to walk in the rocky area dominated by pine trees (where the berries are found), or to go to the more moist areas with lots of spruce trees are wonderfully shadowy (and often full of mushrooms)
