What you'll do
We eat three meals a day, which means 1,095 meals a year. Each meal rejuvenates your body and keeps it healthy. Good food not only fills your stomach, but also satisfies the mind—so it's important to make good choices. Soba noodles are a typical Japanese dish that is very popular. Homemade soba noodles do not contain any artificial flavors or preservatives, so you will be able to enjoy the savory and authentic taste of soba. You will learn to make the dough, roll it out, and cut the noodles. After cooking soba noodles, you will feel a sense of achievement. Healthy and delicious food improves quality of life, so let's cook and eat together.
Other things to note
If you have allergies or special requests, please let us know before the class. Soba noodles contain both buckwheat and wheat flour. The class will be held in English.

I am a Japanese cooking instructor and became interested in health issues when I moved to New York City with my family. I obtained certification as an integrative nutrition Health Coach in the U.S. I learned “You are what you eat” and understand how food is important for the body and how it affects mood. I focus on Japanese cooking and have held many workshops in New York and Tokyo.

This soba noodle making class is a fantastic hands-on experience. Asako is a really excellent teacher and in perfect English explained the technique of making soba and took me through it step by step. She also provided me with a colour printed handout in English and gave me recommendations for where to buy the special soba knife and board. As I kneaded and rolled, she took photographs so that I did not need to stop what I was doing. She helped me develop confidence in the technique of rolling the dough into a rectangle, folding and then cutting the soba into fine noodles with the large soba knife. This was the most magical part. We then cooked a portion of my creation and I had it for lunch, with some really superb accompaniments such as frozen muscat grapes. It was super delicious. She then packed the remaining two portions for me to take home and cook. Asako runs this class very professionally and has years of soba making experience, learned from her mum who also teaches at their soba school. I highly recommend anyone interested in cooking and making noodles to come to Asako’s class.
