What you'll do

This tour combines food tastings with history, art, architecture and the best secrets of Porto! since the Portuguese culture is based a lot on its food, many of the stories were the beginning of some of its most famous dishes. I will meet you just in time for a morning cafe and a bite in the best cafe in town, then we will visit the famous landmarks of Porto, including Bolhao market and its known flavors, Sao Bento station which will provide a visual representation of Porto's history, the famous Clerigos Tower, Bridge Luis II, the flowers streets, Aliados square and more. In between the landmarks I will introduce you to the most beautiful grocery shop, explain where the dishes came from and where they serve the best ones. All along, we will talk about art, architecture, history, music, and eat! You will learn so much, like the answer to the following questions: Who's the famous architect buried (somewhere) inside his own masterpiece, and why is there a cookie related to climbing it? Who is the king who gave his heart to the city of Porto and why do the people eat the visceral parts of the animal? How did the Jewish people use a certain dish to hide their religion during the inquisition? Who is this little French girl who can, potentially, give you a heart attack? And how does Harry Potter relate to all of this?

Karin

I am an art and culture historian, with an expertise in Portuguese visual culture, as well as Modern and Contemporary art. My PHD thesis is about the Portuguese cultural and musical heritage. I completed BA Fine Art in Slade School, London, BFA Hunter College NY, MA in Visual Culture in Ben Gurion Uni, Israel. I have been working in museums, galleries, universities and more as an art lecturer and tour guide combining art, culture, music, architecture and history. In 2016 I founded Get ARTYtude, an enterprise that offers new perspectives on event curating and aims to make art more approachable, enjoyable, social, thought provoking, and just different to the traditional platforms. My experience and desire enable me to give tours that combine multiculturalism and knowledge in the right way to fall inlove with this city.
