What you'll do

Your experience will start at the entrance to the magnificent Outeniqua Forest in a safe and peaceful neighbourhood. From the start you will be surrounded by magnificent trees, ferns, and fynbos and fresh fragrant mountain air. The start is relatively easy, we will hike up through the forest and get onto the second mountain contour. Thereafter we will access single track paths and start to ascend to the Railway track, which we will cross over and continue with a short climb to the Cross. On a clear day the view extends from Mosselbay to Wilderness and Sedgefield along the coast and the beautiful Outeniqua and Montagu Pass along the interior and the impressive city of George. You will learn about the reason behind the name of Outeniqua Mountain range; as well as see & learn about some key landmarks in this area. This route is also wonderful to experience as a family outing with children ( minimum age of 8 years) climbing to the Cross. It is also magical to experience in the late afternoon and observe the sunset.

Elaine, Susan and I are proud "George-ites"... and super grateful to live in this beautiful City. Being so close to nature; it's hard not to explore! The Cross is a well known landmark to the locals. To access the Cross requires a little effort, but the views from here are incredible .... extending from the Point at Mosselbay all the way around to Wilderness and Sedgefield on a clear day; and of course the beautiful city of George seen from "on high". We have loved getting to know this route, and as ladies with a passion for exercise, fitness and family have really enjoyed this experience with friends and family alike.

What's included

Food
We will provide some light local snacks to be enjoyed along the route.
Equipment
We will carry some emergency supplies like Space Blanket; Bandages & Plasters.

Where you'll be

Your experience will start in the magnificent indigenous forest... where you will follow forest trails and single track through the Pine plantations to get to the base of the Outeniqua Mountains ... George Peak is the second highest peak at 1337m and this route will take you approximately 1/3 of the way up George Peak. Along the way you will cross the Railway line that was opened in 1913, and will end at The Cross, a well known local landmark.
