What you'll do

We will tour the 4.5 acre property of 200 cacao trees.
We’ll start with a beautiful walk in the cacao, papaya, citrus, banana, and avocado orchards, hearing about the history of her farm. Then you'll learn:
- What is cacao and what types of cacao are grown here in Hawaii?
- How many cacao farms and chocolate trees are there in Hawaii?
- Special farming practices (e.g. how much rain and shade) for growing cacao trees?
-How big do chocolate trees get, and how long do they live?
Then we'll head to the tasting room:
- You will sample the dark chocolate that Lynda's makes on her farm
- You will sample sample chocolate from Kauai , Oahu, Cuba, and other chocolates from the Big Island.
You will walk away with a whole new appreciation for chocolate and a satisfied sweet tooth!
Because of her small size and focus on making unique bars she only sells chocolate bars, cacao nibs, chocolate covered nibs, and cacao tea at her farm’s retail shop.
Other things to note
You'll need to provide your own transportation. Bring your camera and comfortable shoes.
Group size is 10 persons. Our tours are meant to be social, so other travelers might be joining you.

Becoming a cacao farmer and chocolate maker has become a real passion for Lynda. Her Chocolate Farm also includes Canoe Garden plants! The Polynesian settlers brought many useful plants to Hawaii in their voyaging canoes. Bring a picnic lunch as you enjoy the jaw dropping ocean view, estate grown chocolate, and learn about the sacred canoe plants. Lynda looks forward to providing you an interesting and educational tour about her farm and making dark Hawaiian chocolates, tree-to-bar.

Where you'll be

We'll be on Lynda' s 4.5-acre estate chocolate farm near the historic town of Pahoa on the Big Island of Hawaii. Her farm has 200 cacao trees that produce Hawaii-grown chocolate. The property has had no pesticides for over 30 years. Lynda harvests the fruit by hand, ferments, dry and roasts the beans on site. This is a true farm-to-table, or should we say, tree-to-bar experience.

Lynda was a wonderful host and I cannot recommend this experience highly enough! We had a larger group (about 9 people) but Lynda still made an effort to speak with people individually and learn all of our names. She is very knowledgeable about her craft, and explained the chocolate making process in a very easy to follow way. The chocolate tasting was great, too, and Lynda made everything very accessible. She even provides charts for you to reference when tasting to try to nail down the exact flavour profiles! On top of everything else, she even sends you home with fresh fruit from her farm! I was a solo traveller and a little nervous that I would feel "lost in the crowd" so to speak. I can confidently report that this was not the case! I would recommend this experience to anyone looking for a fun and informative activity at a beautiful location (plus, Lynda's pets are adorable and friendly, too!)
