What you'll do

I'll teach you how to cook a traditional Balinese meal using our organic products. Before we go to the farm, I'll take you around the traditional market (for the morning experience) to see how the locals shop, what they sell and also taste some of our fresh fruit and delicacies. Back at the farm, we'll do a walk along with the farm and talk about the local farming methods. You will see the local vegetation and we will harvest some of the ingredients we are going to use later. After that, we will start cooking 6 local dishes and finally, we'll share the delicious meal together. Of course, you will be able to take the rest of the food, a printed recipe book (and PDF recipe) home.

My name is Wayan Jhon, for several years I work abroad in hospitality, before returning to Bali. I love cooking and eating delicious food, I love farming as my parents and most of my family in the village work as farmers. These 7 years back was my learning curve how to make good organic crops and turn it into great dishes with lots of taste. I work with local community farmers to provide the ingredients for the school. At the cooking school You will meet either myself, Made and Beego as your instructor. Looking forward to share our cooking culinary adventures.

Where you'll be

The class is taking place in the middle of our organic farm in the village of Banjar Patas, Desa Taro. In this organic paradise we have a huge variety of vegetables and fruits, all fresh and organic and ready to be picked by you to cook one of our traditional dishes.
It takes around 30-40 minutes drive by car from the center of Ubud. We'll have our shuttle pick up and drop back to the center of Ubud to make easier for you to come.

This is my third time at Bali and first time at cooking class. I will definitely recommend to attend in this class as a first thing to do at Bali for newbie at Bali. This is just great that they has an meat and veggie options. Food is a bit fatty and sweetie but this is not a problem of a host, this is traditional food as it is. Thanks, guys a lot. Market tour was perfect as well!

This experience was fantastic and unique! We got to learn about different organically grown plants and pick our own veg for cooking. We made many dishes and learned about the unique flavors of Balinese cooking. The staff was kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Our teacher was funny and made the whole experience enjoyable and special. The location feels magical and remote, and is a good activity for a day with a chance of rain as well!

The staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. Our instructor was funny and very knowledgeable. The bathrooms, cooking area, and dining tables were super clean. This experience is shared with others, which is great for outgoing people. Be prepared to converse with strangers... It makes for a better experience and we made a friend! The morning trip through the local market was not what I expected. Our host happened to be one of the instructors too. He was super friendly and explained much of what others in the group were eating. The local market is great for adventurous eaters. As a vegetarian with a queasy stomach, the local market was too much of a stretch for me. Next time, I’d probably save some time in the morning and skip straight to Pemulan Bali Farm. We loved walking through the farm to pick ingredients for the cooking class. The instructors shared lots of helpful information about the different types of plants and fruits we saw on their farm. We got to eat and smell so much! This experience was my first cooking class. My mom and sister had similar experiences in Vietnam, Thailand, and Japan. They definitely enjoyed this cooking class experience the most. :)
