What you'll do

**If the time/date listed doesn't work for you I can be flexible with availability on most days.**
Lobster Hoop Netting! This is one item found on most fishing or lovers of the marine life's Bucket List. If it's not on your Bucket List it should be, especially with a local! Spiny Lobster season starts at the end of September so there's TONS of "bugs" to be caught. You'll learn fun facts about lobsters & the other marine life we'd catch. Lobsters are nocturnal all hoop netting would be done at night. It's best get the nets wet before or at sunset. Lobsters hide in jetties & rocky areas, we would throw the nets off public docks, piers or jetties.
More details on what to bring, etc. listed under "Guest Requirements".

Other things to note; YOU are responsible for buying both CA fishing & lobster licenses. Those fees are NOT part of the Experience price

**Air BNB no longer allows free diving.**

I am a San Diego native, yogi & marine science nerd. For almost 5 years I’ve professionally led countless oceanic adventures all around San Diego. If I'm not in the ocean kayaking, diving or snorkeling I'm near it weather it be exploring hidden sea caves at negative low tides, seeking tide pools, lobster hoop netting or educating myself all about it. I love sharing unique experiences with those who have similar passions.

Where you'll be

We'll be hoop netting in Mission Bay mainly. I know of a few other places we can go but Mission Bay is the most central & convenient area. We can always venture off in & around Point Loma & Shelter Island as well.

Fun Experience! Didnt catch any, but caught a baby stingray which was pretty cool. Nice, non-busy location and enjoyed the conversation and her little doggy Kona. Would recommend!

We really appreciated the short discussion about marine life, but we thought we’d be more likely to see some sort of marine life. We also didn’t realize most lobstering is off shore as we were told when buying the permits, and probably didn’t need to buy so many permits since only one person ever touched the nets or participated from the pier. We also didn’t expect to be responsible for the part of the small flashlight that fell from your lanyard. I’m surprised it was a $20 item. I thought you said that you could buy a set of those at Costco for that price? It was just a disappointment, but I’m guessing it would have been great to kayak with you!

We had a great time, didn't catch any lobsters but got two sting rays, then the next evening on another tour we learned that San Diego is famous for it's stings. Made it special in an entirely different way. Danielle was great, she was so knowledgeable and fun. We also enjoyed the environment, the moon was near full, we could see Mars in the sky and the weather was perfect. It was certainly something different and definitely what I think of as an experience. Thank you Danielle.

Danielle showed us how to catch lobsters!!! I’m not saying that we did, however if we had, we would have known how to do it after spending a couple of hours with Danielle. She is very knowledgeable and fun to hang out with. She taught us her techniques and shared some if her stories. I’m fully convinced that we just got skunked by the like sea bugs, but it was still fun and a great value. We will try again someday when we return to San Diego!

Had a great time! Danielle is super passionate about marine life, is accommodating, and responds to any questions in a timely manner. She ensures compliance with any lobster licensing requirements and teaches how to bait, set, and pull the hoop nets. I would reccomend this SD experience and will certainly do this again!
