What you'll do

We'll meet at my studio in famous Shimokitazawa to learn Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral arrangement. I'll prepare fresh flowers and greens for you from the professional flower market. We'll enjoy traditional Japanese tea "maccha" and seasonal Japanese sweets while learning the "Moribana," a basic Ikebana style. We'll explore the idea of "less is more," and then you'll get to freestyle your own artistic creation. Yes, You can make two Ikebanas! My class has a seating capacity of only 3 persons with very intimate atmosphere. Enjoy!
Other things to note
Please bring your own bag if you'd like to take the flowers back home.

This was a really wonderful experience. Marine was really knowledgable and lovely and her home was very cozy and inviting. Marine explained the foundations of ikebana but gave us lots of time to experiment and try our hand at flower arranging. Her home is also in a very lively neighborhood which was fun to look around afterwards. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo!

This was a fantastic experience I highly recommend. We got lost on our train and were slightly late and Marine was very kind and gracious to us. She explained the beginner method for how to create beautiful ikebana. She demonstrated and then we tried making our first Ikebana and a freestyle version. The flowers she provided were beautiful and she was very knowledgeable in explaining everything to us. We also witnessed her talent and professionalism with the perfect suggestions she made to help our first attempts look beautiful. She was kind and her home was very welcoming. The sweets and the tea was delicious too. Marine also provided us a handout in Japanese and English to take with us to explain the basic principals of Ikebana. If I find myself in Japan again, I would sign up for this again. It was a beautiful, peaceful experience and we really enjoyed it. Thanks again, we are very grateful to have had this experience and meet you and felt so welcomed, Marine. You are an awesome, talented person!!!

Marine's workshop is beautiful and in a very cool area of Tokyo. She welcomed us with Japanese snacks and was so hospitable, and the class had a personal and intimate feel as there were only 3 of us. We learned quite a lot, and Marine gave us copies of an introductory text on ikebana arranging to take home with us. The class was highly enjoyable - Marine did a demonstration and explained the philosophy behind ikebana, and also provided helpful critiques and tips. We were able to set up nice ways to photograph our arrangements afterwards, in different parts of Marine's workshop. (She offered for us to take flowers with us, but we chose not to as we were continuing on to different parts of Tokyo for the rest of the day.) Overall the class was a serene and wonderful experience, and we we able to gain insight into Japanese history and culture at the same time. One thing for future visitors - we had some problems with the Airbnb address in Google maps, but Marine's photo directions were clear and correct, so just following those should be OK.

Marine was a wonderful teacher and took the time to explain the basics of Ikebana with demonstrations and we got to make two beautiful floral arrangements. She also served some delicious traditional sweets and matcha tea. Thank you again for this experience. I cannot wait to practice back home in Canada.
