Kayak in the jungle with an adventurer

Quepos, Costa Rica

Experience hosted by Alex

2.5 hours
Includes drinks, tickets, equipment
Up to 5 people
Hosted in English, Spanish, French

What you'll do

I will be taking you to a private dock in the middle of the mangrove jungle, where we will launch our kayaks. I will guide and help you the whole way as well as take pictures for you to keep as memories. I will explain about the different mangrove trees and point out any wildlife or other unique parts of the jungle. I will be your guide for the duration to answer any questions you may have. If you get tired I can customize the rests along the way to suit you.

If the tour is at 4pm this is a night and day tour. We will be arriving back in the dark but will have lights and it can be even more magical at night.

This tour has been altered from 15 people max to 5. It will make it more intimate and safer during the Covid pandemic. If a larger group or family wishes to book please send a request as airbnb allows up to 10 people at this time.
Other things to note
You will need to figure out transportation to the mangroves by shuttle, taxi or your car. I can help coordinate the taxi or shuttle for you if needed.
(Taxis and shuttles have additional cost)

I was born in Costa Rica, but am part French and was raised in Golfito. I have always been an adventurer, from skateboarding to hiking in the jungle. I went to school to become a licensed guide in Costa Rica, where I learned about all its animals and wildlife. I have a passion for sharing my love of the wilderness, and look forward to sharing my experiences with you.

Where you'll be

You will see pineapple, white, red, and black mangrove trees along with other beautiful flora. You may also see wildlife, including crabs, bats, monkeys, silky anteaters, iguanas, lizards, herons, and other birds. If you want, I will take you down an iconic route which is very narrow and fun.

Very cool adventure off the beaten path in the mangrove forest, definitely not a boring group-float. Alex has lots of knowledge of the forest and wildlife, and times the tour so that we see the shift to dusk as well as to take advantage of the tides. You can tell he is passionate about being a good guide, which is very appreciated!

This experience was so beautiful and relaxing! We (my girlfriend and I) first met Alex at the location provided and were joined by another couple for our kayak experience. This is an easy kayak ride, not physically taxing at all and the water really will carry you. We took a relaxing ride through the mangroves at sunset which made for some really amazing views! It was a little challenging at times to steer the kayak and avoid getting caught in the tree branches, but it made for a fun adventure. Alex is very knowledgeable about the animals and plants in the mangroves and was a great host!

Alex was great. Taught us about mangroves and the area. The best part for us was coming in as the sun was going down and having the bats come alive and flying by us. Will not soon forget.

With my partner, we sign up for this experience, and we really enjoyed it. It was great to see mangroves so close and learn new things. We did an evening tour, and experience the river at night was definitely something unique.

Our trip with Alex and Bell was awesome. Myself and my three kids had questions and Alex had the answers. Alex is very patient, chill, and informative. We would highly recommend to a family or group of friends. Btw Alex will take pictures for you and he does a great job at that too!

We were pretty early that morning and waiting for Alex in front of the kayak lodge. A very polite lady who didn’t speak English warmly welcomed us. During the waiting period she took us into the garden where she showed up a lot of plants like cashew, grapes, oranges, avocados and papayas. It was a pretty cool start into the adventure with Alex. The kayak tour was great. We were a group of only 5 persons including Alex and his friend. For example we saw many birds, crabs, iguanas and bats. Alex explained so many plants and roots to us. Besides it was very impressive to see such a rare location of nature. I highly recommend.
