About your host

I am a London-based Battlefield Guide and specialist in Military History with a Masters Degree, currently studying for a PhD in the First World War. I have been guiding professionally in London and in Continental Europe for 8 years, and often work with schools with specific educational requirements, but also frequently guide more general interest groups around London's iconic sites.

What we’ll do

We will go on a 2.5 hour tour of the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth, South London, starting with the recently-redesigned First World War Gallery, and explore how this conflict was managed by the powerful, and experienced by those in the front line. We'll discuss how the war was experienced by those at home, and I'll share my own experience of the battlefields as they currently stand. I will also…

What else you should know

The museum is all indoors with elevator access throughout, and lockers are available for a refundable deposit of £1. Some exhibits have flashing images and can be disturbing or upsetting, particularly in the Holocaust Gallery. Photography is not permitted in this section.

Where you'll be

The Museum itself is self-contained but set on a number of levels in the building, the main highlights being the atrium itself, the First World War Gallery and the Holocaust exhibition. The First World War gallery being the most developed and modern part of the museum and extends around most of the ground floor; it can be a little overwhelming. My aim is to pick out key exhibits to tell the story.
