What you'll do
What is Enamelling?
“Enamelling is the process of applying thin layers of finely ground glass to metal. Which when heated to a high temperature (800-850 degree Celcius), the glass melts and fuses with the metal.”
It’s one of the three ancient fired arts besides Pottery & Glass and due to the materials involved, it’s perfect for Interiors & Exteriors. Enamel has an inherent sheen and strength to it, which just enhances its tactile quality.
This workshop will be an introduction to how through centuries artists have been fusing glass with metal and producing exquisite pieces of art.
You'll be working on Steel and learning how to apply powdered glass as paint and create your design in multiple layers. As each piece will be fired 2-3 times, giving the artwork it's glass sheen and weatherproof quality.
Smriti will be guiding you throughout the session, working with each participant individually.
Other things to note
All skill levels are welcome! We work with the individual's creativity and mould the difficulty level accordingly :)

I (Smriti) was introduced to the world of various cultural and contemporary art forms from a very young age. Receiving training predominantly by my mother (Ritu Sangal) who inspired me towards an artistic endeavour. In 2008, I completed my BFA from Delhi University and pursued an MFA at Wimbledon College of Art, UAL, London finishing in 2014.
After returning to India I had one ambition - to develop my mother’s vision to highlight & extend the journey of Indian art mediums to every creative individual. Thus, establishing this vision under the official name of Culture Chauraha in 2014.

Where you'll be
We'll be working at our studio space, which is well equipped with all tools & amenities required for the medium.
We had a really pleasant time with Ritu. She was extremely knowledgable about lots of different art mediums, and even made someone who had never painted before feel extremely comfortable. Her work is beautiful and we learned so much. The enameled pieces we created are sure to become our favorite souvenirs.
