Walk between Palace, Deer & Amusement

Klampenborg, Denmark

Experience hosted by Lis

Up to 10 people

What you'll do

I will take you for a wonderfull historic walk through the Jaegersborg Forest and Deer Park.

We'll first visit the Worlds oldest amusement park Bakken, dating back 400+ years, due to a woman Kirsten Piil, who claimed to have found a spring with healing water in year 1583. According to the legend, nature gave this water special power during midsummer, and visitor came in larger number every year. That's how Bakken was founded by travellers, entertaining and selling food, drinks and other necessities that you have to travel far to get these days.

I'll show you the well which is just outside Bakken and we'll continue our walk in the beautiful forest towards the grand Hermitage Palace, that was built as a royal hunting lodge in 1734-36.

There we'll have a little stop and enjoy a hot drink and have a taste of Danish pastry to keep us going. The park has 2000 deer of 3 different kinds and it would be very unusual if we didn't see any.

As the lodge is in the middle of the park we'll walk back towards the station another route, but will be close to the amusement park, if you'd like to enjoy for yourself afterwards.

You can also enjoy a walk on the beach, just opposite the station.
Other things to note
Wear suitable ourdoor clothes and shoes- check the weather.
Danish weather always changes. Perhaps bring something to sit on.
Good idea to bring drinking water.
The walk is approx 6 km

I am a person who enjoys the beauty of nature, and this particular place is so special that it's on the Worlds Heritage list.

Unfortunately it's like a non-existing place for tourist, both the amusement park and the entire history around the park.

When I'm visiting I can easily bring my thoughts back to the time when travellers needed a place to rest and entertain themselves - and the upperclass and the royals, having fun hunting and riding their horses.

When you enter the forest it's like you walk under a big umbrella, because the trees have been eaten by deer to a certain length.

Lis was an absolutely delightful tour guide! She was full of information and knew a lot about the area we explored. The park/forest area we hiked was stunning! The hike itself is easy and completely doable even if you're not in great shape (aka me). More of a nature walk if you will. We saw lots of deer in several areas of the park and got some great photos. The amusement park was super cool to check out, and my boyfriend and I actually went back later to ride a few rides. Lis also brought us tea/coffee and danishes. Delicious! Highly recommend this unforgettable experience!
