What you'll do

This experience is all about cats. We'll visit one of the most famous traditional shrines, known as the birthplace of the maneki-neko—a cat figurine believed to bring happiness to your life, holding up a paw and bringing luck. There are several very nice locations in the shrine to take photos. I will also explain the proper manners for visiting a shrine in Japan. We will also visit a cat cafe and enjoy a relaxing teatime surrounded by lovely rescued cats from Tsunami 2011. You can either enjoy watching cats, touch the cats or play with them with cat toys. At the cat cafe you will also have the fun time to create your own original maneki-neko. You can take it home with you, and it will stay as one of your memory and souvenir for yourself and your maneki-neko will keep bringing a lot of happiness to your life!
Other things to note
As we have a walk to the shrine, I recommend not to take a big bag with you.
Please prepare a little bit of space in your stomach for a Japanese traditional sweet

As I love to make people happy and smile, I've always worked in businesses offering hospitality and used to work as a cabin crew in the past.
Being a huge cat lover I'm very excited to find "Cat Friend" and would love to share this really nice, historical city of Asakusa with a lot of cats!

A really fun and memorable experience. Especially liked painting our own maneki nekos and sharing stories with Kayo. Would highly recommend to others :)

Kayo is very kind, and showed us the proper way to pray at a Japanese temple, which was very nice! She also read us our fortunes at the temple and explained the whole process. I also loved getting to paint my own little lucky cat! 🐱

Legitimately a wonderful and unique experience and something I would never have thought to do had it not been recommended by a friend. Even my travelling companion who came along just for fun immensely enjoyed herself and said it was a highlight of our trip. Definitely a must do for everyone! Not just for cat lovers!

Kayo’s cat tour is delightful for cat lovers or any tourist interested in an animal related aspect of Japanese culture. Kayo provided us insight into Japanese culture, the lucky cat icon, an incredible visit to a cat cafe full of rescue cats, and the proper etiquette for visiting the Shinto cat shrine. Kayo was kind, caring, and offered insight and recommendations for the rest of our stay in Tokyo. I came in hoping for a wonderful cat experience, and left with much more! Thank you Kayo for this unforgettable portion of our honeymoon!

This was a great, very personalized experience. We started at a cat cafe where we got to meet all of the owner's cats, who seem to be particularly well taken care of as opposed to other cat cafes we've been to. Kayo explained to us that the owner saved all of these cats in a tsunami and plans on having them live in his own home when they're ready to retire from the cafe. We also got to paint our own lucky cat statues and watched the owner of the cafe feed his cats in a pretty fun frenzy. Afterward though we had an amazing and somewhat unexpected experience getting a tour of some of the local shrines in the area that finished with a stop at a cat shrine. What made it so special though was Kayo explaining the proper steps and procedures for entering the shrine and the proper way to leave a prayer/wish, something we would not have learned on our own without the help of a local expert.

I run a travel directory for cat lovers called Hotels With Cats so I was looking for something unique to do in Tokyo where I could connect with cats and cat lovers. The tour was exactly what we wanted and the highlight of our trip to Japan. We were lucky on the day we booked that it was just us. I loved that Cafe Calaugh, the cafe visited on the tour has rescue cats from the Tsunami. You can really sense the cats are happy and that it is their home. We loved the visit to the Shrine, painting our own Maneki Neko (as adults with no kids!) and learning about shrine etiquette and culture. Our fortunes were also spot on. The day felt like a day with a friend, and Kayo is a warm and open host. The morning was a highlight of our trip in Japan. Just book!
