Animal experience hosted by Chiara

3.5 hours
Includes drinks
Up to 10 people
Hosted in English, Italian

What you'll do

A "slow tourism" activity which consists of hiking with pack animals. The donkeys, in addition to keeping company, can carry backpacks and children, to make the walk lighter and more pleasant.
All participants can lead the donkeys thus learning to know them and get in touch with them.
We can get to Rocca Calascio also with a funny film critic (he'll treat the films shot in the area, will tell anecdotes about the shooting and the actors and will be available for questions and curiosity about the world of cinema). The path that connects Santo Stefano di Sessanio to Rocca Calascio is quite simple and suitable for everyone with a minimum of training, 5 km long and can be covered in 1h30m on the outward journey as well as for the return, and with a difference in height of just 300m.
We can organize customized itineraries of two or three hours.
When you are booking, please text me to organize your perfect trek!
Other things to note
The activity are carried out by authorized guides and qualified IAA operators.
We can host you in the "Ladyhawke house".

I'm co-founder of "Gira e Rigira" born in the summer of 2017 from the union of lovers of nature, animals and their endless relationships with the human being. We are in Santo Stefano di Sessanio a beautiful medieval village full of historical and cultural hints that we have interpreted and repurposed. We are lucky to live among beautiful landscapes and we love share them. Donkeys are fantastic animals and the added value of our experiences ... see for yourself!

Where you'll be

Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a medieval village among the most beautiful in Italy; it is our start point to visit the heart of Gran Sasso National Park with its suggestive places like Rocca Calascio, Castelvecchio and the old "Baronia lands". We'll do that in a very original way...with donkeys as ancient times!
We can customize the excursion according to your needs.

It was such a unique experience! Chiara and Luigi were very friendly and helpful. Chiara found her way to communicate with our children and they liked her so much! Animals were friendly and quiet, they were treated well and children were happy to be around them. Landscapes are something! I couldn't put the beauty of nature that we've seen into words. All participants of our group were happy and full of enthusiasm in the end. Strongly recommend!

Esperienza bellissima!!

The experience is totally worth it! Chiara has created a beautiful day for avid hikers. She is very conscious of everyone’s needs. She wants you to be comfortable. The views are stunning, her cinema expert was fantastic (I do not know if he always accompanies her). The donkeys are charming, cooperative and they carry anything you don’t want to lug around. The restaurant was very adequate- or bring your own picnic lunch. They explain so much history and culture about Italians. There explain many unknown facts about the numerous movies that were filmed in this area. It’s all so interesting. My suggestion: sleep well the night before, drink water, stretch and be prepared for an outstanding experience!
