What you'll do

Upon arriving to the studio you will learn more about the ceramics process and witness a demonstration of both the art of hand-building and wheel throwing techniques on the potter’s wheel. I provide a safe space for guests to inquire and learn. I assist throughout the creative process and “mold” the class to fit your experience level and interests. Experience the playful and therapeutic nature of clay!

Not only will you get a private ceramics lesson but you will experience being in one of Oakland's artist communities, located one block from walk-able Piedmont Avenue which teems with quaint shops, cafes, and eateries.

Only 2 participants max can book, which is great for couples, family, or friends. Single participants are welcome to book too though, you might get the experience all to yourself :)

I can accommodate larger parties upon request. In addition, if you'd like to book a larger event for a work team-building experience, message me for options!

If you don't see a time that works with your schedule, feel free to inquire. I have some blocks of time available throughout the week/weekend.

Pieces take around 3 weeks to allow for the drying, firing, and glazing process. Shipping is an extra cost of $15-$20 domestic shipping.
Other things to note
Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy. Aprons will be provided.

Long fingernails can interfere with wheel-throwing.

For the sake of comfort, the ceiling is low in certain areas, tall folks may have to bend down here and there- it adds to the experience ;)

I have been making functional ceramics for over a decade, and sell at local craft markets and make custom work. In the past, I worked with youth as a Museum Educator and studio hand at a local clay studio for kiddos.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to star in a documentary about a famous porcelain artist in Jingdezhen, China- the "porcelain capital" of the world.

In addition to working on my ceramics business, I am a school counselor and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist.

Judy is an incredible teacher. She was incredibly patient and kind, offered us tea and connected with us as humans. I was happy and honored that Judy introduced me to the art of clay making. Will definitely do again!

Judy was really sweet and patient with the whole process. It felt very personal with only 2 of us there, and she was very attentive. The class was a lot of fun, and I'd love to come back again!

It was wonderful! I loved this workshop so much! It felt really intimate and special, not just like a large group in a chain shop. It was wonderful getting to learn about pottery and try it out, Judy was really encouraging and helpful, offering tips in the right place, but also letting us experiment and get a feel for it ourselves. I would absolutely recommend this experience to anybody! And will definitely be back myself!

I had an amazing experience with Judy. She was able to give me simple, yet specific instructions as well as demos, and then she let me loose to explore my own creativity. Throughout my time she was always there to help guide or simply talk about life. Time flew by and I felt like I got a really hands on experience about what it’s like to make pottery. I I think I’m hooked thanks to Judy! I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who’s ever been curious about what it’s like to get your hands dirty and play with clay on a wheel, and make some beautiful objects out of the process.
