What you'll do

We will enjoy a relaxing walk on the other side of the river Arno, through the real heart of Florence, the Oltrarno quarter, “the old town” for florentines! I will take you to see masterworks of architecture and art related to the most important artists of the Renaissance like Brunelleschi and Michelangelo. As you breath-in the spirit of Florence while walking its ancient streets, you will discover the origin of the Renaissance and learn of its unique history and important works of art. There are many wonderful treasures to be seen on “the other side” and interesting stories to tell; stories linking the past to the present. This is a walk starting just in the heart of Florence and yet almost in the countryside, that reaches the ancient wall of the old town. As an italian artist, historian, and 40 year resident of Florence who loves her city, I will reveal to you captivating stories of the life and times of the great Renaissance Masters and how they changed the world and continue to influence contemporary Florence. There will be time to sample a typical local snack that, in its simplicity and taste, reminds us of the Renaissance too!
Other things to note

I raised in Florence where I studied History and Art at the university, and where I became a painter! I’m a official tourist guide too. I really love speaking about my passions, history and art and sharing them with other people. I’m a curious person and lover of other countries culture. I love travelling and whenever I am ... I love eating!

Where you'll be

We start from one of the most beautiful squares in Florence, Santo Spirito, the heart of the Oltrarno quarter, rich in history and charm. We journey through ancient streets and palaces, the Pitti Palace, Santa Felicita, Old Bridge, then continue through wonderful winding, narrow streets to the ancient wall of Florence. Beside its old medieval towers we’ll finish on the Santa Trinita bridge, the perfect place to admire Florence along the Arno!

I had a fantastic tour with Elisabetta. It was more like seeing the city with a friend. It was perfectly paced and well prepared for, between going into churches to see art and walking along the ancient city walls. One of the highlights for me was seeing the crucifixion statue by Michelangelo in the Santo Spiriti Church. It was a really moving moment. Elisabetta knows her history so well and every block of the way you get some interesting insights that make you value Florence more. The Oltrarno is a really beautiful part of Florence and there is SO much to see there. While you may just enjoy it by walking around, it makes a real difference to know the history and context of what you are seeing for a truly enriching experience. I also enjoyed some nice conversations with her about the changing scene in Florence with growing tourism, about Tuscan food and home recipes and her work as an artist and restorer. Over a refreshing drink, she took time to show me places on a map and explained about other places in Florence. If you have a few days in Florence, I highly recommend that you do this tour in the beginning of your trip so you can absorb the sights and knowledge over the rest of your stay. Don't miss it - it's definitely worth your time and money. Elisabetta, thank you so much for the gift of your knowledge and your time. It was really fun and a great memory for me!

This is an unique experience and I really recommend it. Elisabetta has a great passion for her neighborhood which is shared extensively. But the tour goes beyond that and covers the history of the Toscana and of course the Medici. She has a deep understanding about how arts intertwined with history and I was able to increase my understanding of Florence. In addition, you will able to see the city from another point of view and spaces. I did moren than 7 tours in my week in Florence and this was by far my favorite!

Wonderful experience with Elisabetta. She is an artist with an extensive education in art history and art restoration. I would not have had this experience without her and feel comfortable in Florence.
