What you'll do
No tickets to the Anne Frank House? This experience provides a great alternative!
Before your Virtual Reality (VR) experience of the house, you'll travel back in time with us to Amsterdam in WWII. We start by walking through the Jewish Historic Quarter. You'll learn about Amsterdam’s rich Jewish history by passing landmarks - each with its own unique story. Feel the emotion and hope of the Jewish population during the dark days of the war. We end at a cafe to experience in VR how Anne and her family lived in hiding between 1942 and 1944.
Our journey starts with a short introduction on why the first Jews fled to Amsterdam to avoid persecution in the 1600's. We then explore further into the Jewish Historic Quarter. We pass the Portuguese Synagogue, the city's oldest park, our favorite street, the Dutch theater, monuments, memorials, and several other hidden gems. We tell stories and show pictures that will make history feel within arm's reach.
We end the tour at our favorite cafe where we treat you for a coffee. This is when we dive into the VR experience. Through this medium, you avoid the crowds at the museum to enjoy a more personal experience of the Anne Frank house.
This tour focuses on the acts of resistance, as well as how the events of the past have shaped the city today. Rather than a somber story of loss and sorrow, our tour's theme is tolerance and hope.
Other things to note
Be prepared, we will walk about 3 km (2 miles) and it can be rainy.

My name is Stephan, I have lived in Amsterdam for 15+ years, and I organize private tours in and around Amsterdam together with my friends. After a career in online marketing, I decided to switch careers and do what I like best: showing people the undiscovered nooks and cracks of the city.
Together with Vince and Guido I am running this unique, personal, and engaging experience.
Vince: Combines his deep historical knowledge with years of experience in public speaking. He has lived in Amsterdam for 11 years.
Guido: Born and raised in Amsterdam, right next to the Anne Frank House. He combines his passion for the city with a life of writing theater, comedy, music, and screenplays.

Where you'll be
This experience starts with 1,5-2h walking outside in the Jewish quarter (with several stops).
During the experience we will see several Jewish landmarks from the outside like the Portuguese synagogue (1675), the Dutch Theater, and various other landmarks. We stop at a local cafe for coffee to get further acquainted. This is where you'll 'visit' the Anne Frank House in Virtual Reality.

Stephan, I wanted to leave some feedback about our tour with Dennis on Oct 18. Dennis was FANTASTIC- friendly, attentive, flexible, engaging and entertaining. After the tour he provided us with several recommendations we had asked for, great follow-up. He was a 10/10, or A+!! Thank you so much for connecting us. All the best, Luciano

Vincent was our guide. Not Stephan. Vincent was a nice person, very personable, but we got the sense he was sort of piecing the tour together as he went along and he did not provide much depth in regards to Jewish history.
Stephan should remove the "Anne Frank" reference from the tour's title as this tour is NOT about Anne Frank and setting up expectations creates confusion and may be interpreted as a trick to hook people in.
I also thought there was apple pie and coffee!?!?!

The tour was interesting for someone who’s looking to better understand the Jewish history in Amsterdam. I would not know which sites to visit if I had tried to explore on my own. The storytelling was engaging and the guide was knowledgeable to take questions from the group.
One thing to note though, this tour does not cover the Anne Frank House or make any mention of it - the host has made this clear in the description but could be misleading if one does not read the description beforehand (i.e. someone on the tour was very disappointed to find out after it had started).
