Sew a collarless shirt with a tailor

London, United Kingdom

Experience hosted by Ariike

5 hours
Includes food, equipment
Up to 2 people
Hosted in English

What you'll do

We will begin with a visit to the three Brixton markets, taking in the history of the markets, and visiting the fabric shops for their selection of African prints. We will return to my studio where you will cut your own pattern on an African print material or any other fabric of your choice. You will learn how to cut, sew, and finish a collarless shirt over some coffee and refreshments. Then you will learn to finish the neck. We will do an easy sleeve placket and cuff. You will finish by learning to sew your own button holes and using a sewing machine to sew the buttons too. At the end of the class you will have a completed shirt for you to take home for yourself or as a gift for a loved one. You will be guided through every stage of this exciting shirt-making experience.
Other things to note
- Please send your neck size measurement when you book this experience.
- And send me your sleeve length too.
- You will take home a finished shirt at the end of this experience.

I'm a dressmaker and tailor based in London, where I went to fashion school. I have been sewing for over 20 years, making everything from women's clothing and bags to plush toys. I work out of my studio in Brixton, where I design and make everything by hand.

Ariike was a lovely host! I've done some sewing in the past and really felt like I wanted to have a "tailor made experience," (excuse the pun) in an environment where I could not only have fun whilst making something but also get a few tips to use on my own at home. Ariike was very patient, she was very willing to teach and made me feel comfortable and relaxed during the whole experience. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking to have a chilled, relaxing and artsy afternoon in London. Thank you Ariike!

I had a great time with Ariike in the studio! The experience was a present from my girlfriend, never made anything before but it was a great idea as I've always admired African print shirts and attire. Ariike created a very relaxed atmosphere and took time to explain every step of the process. Left with a fantastic shirt! Thank you Ariike.
