What you'll do

This combo experience offers you a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and history of Amsterdam, and see the "City on Poles" from two very distinct and alluring points of views.

With a maximum of 4 people for this tour which guarantees a very personal experience, we’ll pick up the bikes and cycle to the oldest part of the city. We'll admire the view of the oldest part of the city, then wander down a tiny alley to see a lesser-known architectural treasures. We'll continue cycling through the bustling area close to the Begijnhof, and savor the beauty of this oldest inner court of Amsterdam. The second half of the experience gives you a chance to explore a quieter and more peaceful Amsterdam, one that's only discovered by boat along its system of canals. We'll glide along the waterways in silence, taking in the colors, lights, sights, and beauty of Amsterdam as we go. We'll see elegant waterfront homes, admire the undersides of bridges, and get to sit back and take in a truly magical atmosphere that only comes from a town built on poles. The experience concludes back at our starting point.

My name is Hans and I am a historian with a passion for Amsterdam and its region with its rich history. As a historian I know the hidden secrets of the city like no other and I have been providing guided tours of Amsterdam and its region for years. I have lost my heart to the well-known, but especially to the unknown places where few tourists come. There you will follow in the footsteps of the great painter Rembrandt van Rijn or that of mayor Hudde and taste the herbs of the VOC.

My husband and I absolutely had a fabulous time with Hans. Cycling through the busy streets of Amsterdam was a bit daunting at first but Hans was super patient and kept at our pace. Learned a lot about their history. Like someone else said, it felt like a 3-in-1 tour. Book this and I promise you won't regret it! It was an amazing experience from start to finish.

Hans was very knowledgeable and has a very kind personality that makes him easy to talk to. He was also very efficient at planning around the rain and made it work so smoothly. He was also very patient as we were sometime slow on the bike and stopped when we had trouble. We highly recommend this tour it's a nicer way of exploring the city on bike!

Let me start off this review by saying, I loved this tour! We saw so many different places. We traveled mostly by bike since the streets weren't so crowded. I am a very small person at 5'1. Since the bike was a bit larger for me, I had a harder time but Hans helped me all along the way! Well worth the money. We saw a lot, and learned a lot. My absolute favorite part was when you get to visit the smallest house in Amsterdam. Seeing Amsterdam on a bike is such a different experience than if you were strictly doing one of the walking tours. If your're hesitating or thinking if you should do this, I recommend DO IT. You won't regret it.

Hans is very knowledgeable about Amsterdam as well as the Netherlands as a whole. He showed us a number of “off the beaten path” places and even managed to adjust our tour flow to avoid the rain showers. As someone who was a bit intimidated with the idea of riding a bike in Amsterdam, I felt totally comfortable with Hans as our guide. I would highly recommend this tour as a great way to learn about the region and its history!

Hans was such a joy to spend an afternoon with. We were lucky enough to be the only ones that day. My wife is a history nerd, so he adjusted the itinerary to include way more sights that she really enjoyed and appreciated. Coming from a conservative Asian country, we also wanted to check out the Red light district, and Hans graciously brought us there even thought it wasn't part of his tour. We felt really taken care of and learnt so much about Dutch history and culture. To be able to experience cycling like a local as well as a canal tour all in one day. Highly recommend
