What you'll do

Follow the footsteps of black history

Together we will trace the Toronto footsteps of abolitionists Harriet Tubman, Josiah Henson, and others. As we explore schools, churches, and parks that played key roles in the Underground Railroad, we'll discuss why and how many black leaders—including former slaves—migrated to Toronto and built the foundations of a strong black community.

This tour was excellent in providing local and worldwide historical background about Black history in Toronto. I would highly recommend everyone to take this tour. I live in Toronto and I was able to learn new things about places I pass by regularly. Thanks Jacqueline!

I had such a great time on this walk. Jacqueline has so much knowledge and she really makes the effort to involve you in the experience by asking you some thought provoking questions. She is a great story teller and I would definitely recommend this tour.

This was a great 'event' for our offsite team meeting, not really as a team building exercise (although that certainly did happen) but as something to do together that we would all learn from. Highly recommend reaching out to Jacqueline to see how she can work this into any work you want to do with your teams, or a group of friends. And you will walk!

A really interesting tour of Toronto and some aspects of its rich history. Learn about food, music, culture, and politics as they relate to black history in Canada, as well as beyond our borders. Jacqueline is a fount of knowledge and can share numerous stories along the various stops of the tour. Her perspective on the role colonialism has paid (and in many ways, continues to play) in creating some of the social norms that we may not think about, and how, unsurprisingly, they are connected with the exploitation of African, its people, and its resources. Prepare to be educated, discuss a range of topics, and enjoy a bit of exercise with in an urban environment.

Jacqueline was very knowledgeable about black history, not just Canadian black history, but global black history as well. We learned and shared common and divergent experiences. Even though the weather (snow storm) did not allow for a full outdoor experience, my husband and I had a wonderful time and highly recommend this activity!

Nobody is a repository of knowledge. By the time you interact with the team you would realize that there is still a lot to learn about Black history and the much taunted trajectories!
