What you'll do

We will be shooting film in the Union Station/Capitol Hill area of Washington DC. Hands on and one on one time with a professional photographer with 20+ years of experience.
I will provide 35mm film cameras and a short roll of Black and white film for each participant to shoot. If you have your own film camera, that's cool too. I will develop the rolls and mail your negatives to you. I will also scan in your "best" shot and email or dropbox it to you. There will also be a curated instagram page of my favorites.

I can give you ideas on camera settings, focal length pros and cons, talk about "seeing" and "vision", composition, seeing light, shadows, framing, reflections, analog vs digital, AND best of all, helpful feedback.

This experience isn't about blasting away and ending up with 750 images of touristy type snapshots. This is about thinking about the decisive moment, finding something interesting to see, and figuring out how to get one or two really outstanding photographs on a roll of 24 exposures.

We will photograph at ONE Capitol Hill location...Union Station, the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, or the Library of Congress. Rainy weather? inside Union Station.
Other things to note
This EXPERIENCE is geared toward novices/intermediates with little or no film photography background, but if you love classic gear or have only shot digitally, it may be of interest to you as well..

Where you'll be

We will meet at a restaurant in Union Station.

During the introductions, we'll view some inspiring images on my iPad and discuss some techniques for getting the most from your analog photography experience. I will distribute the cameras and film there.

In case of rain or bad weather we will stay inside Union Station, if the Sun is out, the Capitol Building, Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress are all in play.
