What you'll do

From North Berwick we will learn how to sea kayak and head out on a journey around the islands of Craigleith and Lamb. We can stop on some of Scotland's most beautiful beaches, pass under historic Tantallon Castle, or paddle into the smallest harbour in Scotland. This area is full of wildlife, with huge seabird colonies including puffins, gannets, razorbills, guillemots, and many more. Seals and, on occasion, porpoises, dolphins, or even whales might keep us company. Arriving at the beach, we will get into our dry cags and buoyancy aids, and set up the kayaks to suit each person. On the beach we will learn how to paddle the kayak, and then we will get on the water in the bay to try it out. Once everyone is feeling confident that they can make the boat go forwards and turn, we will head out on our journey to the Island of Craigleith. Once there, we will have the option to get out of the boats and stretch our legs, or possibly continue on to the Isle of Lamb before heading back to the beach at North Berwick.
Other things to note
Wear sporty/outdoor style clothing and shoes that can get wet. Bring a drink, snacks, spare top, change of clothes, and a towel—just in case. Please arrange your own transport to the meeting place.

My enjoyment of the wilderness came at age 13, and since then I love to get into the outdoors in the pursuit of rock, snow, or water. I am passionate about our wilderness which, along with my young family, encouraged me to set up this sea kayaking venture. I enjoy sea kayaking, as it allows me to see things from a different perspective and get up close to beaches, islands, and wildlife that are inaccessible by other means. While I searched for high-end adventure in my younger days, now you are more likely to see me out on mini outdoor adventures with my wife, daughter, and sons.

Where you'll be

From West Beach in North Berwick we can paddle around the Island of Lamb which is flanked by two "sheep dogs"—North and South Dog islands—which are basically small reefs. If time allows, we can also head out to the Island of Craigleith which, like the nearby Bass Rock, has a substantial seabird population. The area is home to the largest grey seal colony on the east coast of Britain.

Absolutely amazing experience. George is really lovely, attentive and fun. We just loved our wee sail. Kayaks are safe and sophisticated. Our final meeting with the seals was the ultimate bonus! Beautiful! Thanks George :)

We were slightly worried about the weather as it looked wet and windy and I was concerned about the wave (as a not-so-great swimmer). But George was very experienced and reassuring, he made sure we all felt comfortable and safe before we head out to the nearby island and told us various stories on the way. George's calm demeanor really helped me relax. The double kayaks we were on were truly stable, I couldn't believe how peaceful it felt whilst on the sea despite the weather condition. Most of me were kept dry thanks to the waterproof top George kindly provided. Last but not least, we saw a seal who swam briefly around our kayak. Thanks for a great experience!

George is a great guide and instructor, made us all feel welcome and at ease. There were 4 of us and he chatted to us all, checking on how we were feeling. He kitted us out with the equipment we needed and suggested 2 man kayaks for stability and ease in the conditions. We were very lucky with the weather, sunny and a nice breeze to add some interesting but manageable waves. Highlight was seeing the birds on the island which George could tell us about, and the seal which came to see us and swim with us fof a while. A really enjoyable experience!

I would highly recommend this experience if it's your first time or your a seasoned Kayaker. George is patient and flexible to the group's ability. His manner is friendly and makes you feel at ease. George is knowledgeable and informative about the wildlife. The kayaks are a great way of getting up close to the wildlife without disturbing their natural habitat. I highly recommend this experience.
