What you'll do

This experience is meant to introduce the guests to the African roots of the cuban culture. On this purpose we will move from Habana to Matanzas which was one of the pricipal cities in Cuba where more slaves were brought from Africa and which is now the main place where african legacy is alive.
At Triunvirato Museum, which was an ancient sugar mill, we will learn more about slaves' life in the fields. Their habits, theyr lifes and their tragic punishments; as well as the history of slave Carlota, the leader of one of the most important slave rebellions in the Caribbean.
There we will see also one of the most important sculptures dedicated to slaves' freedom. Afterwards we will visit San Severino Museum, a fortress made by the same slaves during the colonial age, where we will learn many different things: the historical importance of the slaves, their cults and their religion, the history of the slave trade and its economical and social consequences. This is a unique experience that guests won't have the chance to do otherwise!

We are a group of friends expert and passionate about anthropological and historical issues connected with the sad page of slavery in the Caribbean area. Besides getting a significant knowledge in these religious, historical and cultural issues, we live in Cuba, where slavery heritage can be touched everyday through the most common experiences. Furthermore we personally entered the culture of the cuban afro descendents when we decided to be part of the Santeria (afro cuban religion) which is one of the main legacy left to us by the African slaves. Our personal and professional experience make us believe that we can give to the guests a unique point of view on the slavery issue.
