I will pick you up in the morning at your Hotel. We will stop at Amarante for a quick visit to the old part of the city. Time to know you better having a cofee and tasting the famous conventual sweets in a wonderful river scenery.
The tour proceeds to Mateus Palace in the city of Vila Real. You will learn the story of the palace and enjoy walking and taking pictures in the charming old gardens.
We will have lunch at Favaios, a small village in the upper Douro region. You will have the opportunity to taste different portuguese dishes and drink the famous Douro white, red and fortified wines.
After lunch I will take you to visit the estate wine cellars.
Our journey continues downhill to Pinhão, always surrounded by the breathtaking Douro Valley landscapes, where you will experience a Douro river cruise in a typical Rabelo boat to contemplate the world heritage beauty of the Douro Valley vineyards.
It is now time to return. For 17 miles we will drive along the Douro river in one of the most beautiful roads in the world!
Other things to note
Please bring comfortable clothes and shoes!

My name is Pedro Cardoso.
Born in Porto, I graduated as an engineer. My father's family is from Resende in the Douro region where we have a small wine estate that also produces cherries. After my marriage I was responsible for a Vinho Verde wine estate in the north of Portugal.
My parents have also a house at Torreira in the Aveiro region. It is a wonderfull place where we use to spend our summer hollidays.
Besides nature and agriculture, one of my passions has always been to discover people and places that now I want to share with you.

My friend and I booked onto Pedro’s tour as we are both keen wine drinkers and wanted to explore the region whilst in Porto. We were already expecting it to be good, but the day was completely spectacular from start to finish. Pedro is the perfect kind of guy to run tours like this - knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and a true Porto local. We found it hard to choose what our favourite part of the day was as everything was so good; the river cruise was a really special trip, but even the stops we were taken to for photo opportunities were world class locations. If you’re considering booking this - just do it. You won’t regret it. It works out as being great value for money as you drink (a lot), you eat (a lot) and you get entrance to the palace and the boat trip - but really, the host is the part that’s the most worth it.

What an amazing experience this was! Pedro was recommended by a friend on mine from a travel group for the Douro Valley tour and indeed he did not disappoint. I contacted him when we arrived in Vila Nova de Gaia, as I wanted to make sure he has openings. There were other tours on Airbnb experiences, some were cheaper, but I wanted to go for the best out there, as recommended. He ended us having just my sister and I on the tour, which was awesome!
Pedro was very fast at responding and setting up the day and time to meet. The day of the trip he arrived early and we stared our journey in his spotless Mercedes van. What a nice part of Portugal this is ! We went to Amarante, had some complimentary coffee and pastries at Confiteria Da Ponte. Pedro is like a historian, he has so much knowledge about the places ! My sister and I loved it! We are very curious about history, customs etc. Then we went to visit the monastery across the river, San Gocalo, where , again, we had a history lesson from Pedro. He is also an excellent driver. Then we visited a Lavradores de Feitoria vineyard and the owners palace, had lunch at Avessada Enoteca( included) in Favaios, tested Port wine at Croft and took a boat tour on the river. Pedro it's a true gentleman and had lots of patience taking pictures for us. I am picky lol.. He pointed nice spots for pics and " got into the game" of photography for us .
We really enjoyed it and recognized the fact that we would have never seen and learned so much , if we were to try to do it on our own ( we had a car , but did not want the stress of driving and finding the places) . It was an excellent decision. Our many thanks to Pedro ! We hope to see you again one day. We will recommend you to all our friends. We know it was a long day, and we hope we were not too annoying hehe, and I hope you will do another tour with us sometime in the future. For the other travellers out please, please take this tour, you won't regret it.
