What you'll do

This experience will offer you the opportunity to approach the “sacred stone” that  accompanies our work and our lives, shape the Marble by involving all 5 senses: observe the matter, recognize its facets, follow its evolution and enjoy its final transformation, caress it, let it talk to you and guide you in the process, smell its aromas of sun and rain moss.
Moisten your lips at the end of the day: you will discover that it will taste new.

We'll find us at the meeting point, a place really close to the lab, we'll reach togheter the workshop's area where you'll meet the master sculptor Marco.
After the introduction by the master sculptor, who will accompany each participant in the activity, we will proceed to a brief but complete sculpture experience: you will try to work a piece of marble with manual and pneumatic tools.
we will have breaks during class hours where you can drink coffee, water or tea, use the toilets, take pictures.
Once you become familiar with the subject, you will dedicate the last minutes to the engraving of a marble scale that you can take away as a souvenir of the experience!
After the lesson we will take you back to the meeting point.
Other things to note
If it rains, the experience will be canceled.
Please remember that we are on the mountain, the ground is rocky.
We have kitchen and toilet.
Dangerous behaviors will not be tolerated

I was born in these places. In these mountains live the spirits that always accompany and guide us. i'm grateful to this nature that gives us so much and takes from us if we do not respect her.
Over time I have learned to listen to her and to love her and now i've found a new dialogue with her: the sculpture.
Hope you'll do the same.

love art, my 2 bulldogs , my coffee.

Where you'll be

The sculpture experience will take place in the heart of the White Marble quarry of the Apuan Alps in Colonnata, a beautiful village famous for the roman excavation and for the typical local food named "lardo".
from our lab you could see the marble quarries, the village and the sea.
After the workshop and the quarry tour you can reach the beach in a few minutes to swim at sunset!

Fabiola (and Marco, the local artist working on site) led us on an experience that was IMPOSSIBLE to have anywhere else. We were up in their family quarry, which has been around since Roman times, and we spent 4-5 hours learning from Marco HOW to use the sculpting tools, picking out pieces of marble from anywhere we liked, and then...free reign to work on a sculpture and consult him as needed. Marco was constantly in arms reach as he was working on his own incredible art (a bust of Julius Cesaer that could be in a museum), and he helped us guide our artwork and stepped in to assist us with his techniques. We loved chatting with Fabiola and Marco and spent some time at the end of our day just hanging out with them. We walked away with our two sculptures (a flaming torch and a family crest) and would love to return in the future (can't recommend this highly enough)!

This experience is a 6-star experience – unique and highly professional. Do not hesitate and book it, we promise that this is exactley what you need and you will not regret it. We cannot tell enough kind words about Fabiola, Marco and the experience itself. My husband and me attended this experience and all our expectations were overfulfilled. Although both of us were absolute beginners we had a great time. Marco is a very calm, very kind and at the same time very engaged and highly skilled artist, that supervised the experience with Fabiola. We visited the query in the top of the mountains, could choose our own stone to work on and had enough time to work on our sculptures and finish them. Fabiola is a very welcoming, lively, professional and smart woman that works in the family-business, she gave us many interesting insights about the query. Finally we have two great classy art-pieces that will always remind us of having such a beautiful time in the mountains of Italy. We are very thankful that both dedicate their precious time to enrich peoples live with this experience and bring the value of marble and professional artistic handwork closer to mankind. Thanks a lot, we will recommend you to our closest friends, family and definitely want to do the experience again when visiting the area.

This was a great experience! I went there with my daughters nearly grown up daughters, and they loved it. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and we always felt supported and guided. We took home a couple of pieces after just a few hours of working - some of them finished, others need still some work, but we received enough instruction to comfortably finish them at home. Fabiola and Marco were great hosts! Very passionate and knowledgeable and I would have loved to stay for a whole week. Grazie!

As active art lovers we loved the sculpting class with Marco and Fabiola. The studio is amazingly equipped and the location between the quarries, owned by Fabiola’s family for generations, is mythical. We slowly got the time to get used to the sculpting techniques thanks to Marco’s skills, becoming confident and at ease. Carrara marble is great material: hard at first glance but amazingly sensual and soft as butter when you get to know it. We highly recommend the workshop for anybody who is curious in discovering his/her own creativity!

My wife, Mary, took the class and I came along and enjoyed the experience too. She writes: Approaching Carrara you look up at the white clad mountain peaks and what appears to be snow. As the mist rises you see that it is marble and the silhouette against the blue sky is breathtaking. You drive up, up, up twisting and turning and meet our host - Fabiola. Her family has mined the marble for generation after generation. She is full of joy and excited to share her world with you. We hop in her car and continue up where we meet the maestro, Marco Bonvini, so humble despite having his feet firmly planted in the upper tier of the contemporary art world. As an artist myself and having been raised in Italy I am curious about the medium. Marco, upon request, shows a portfolio of his world renown work - and I’m thinking this is going to be great! Marco clearly explains and demonstrates the various tools and their uses and allows you to have hands on. After a bit of practice we take a break. Marco finds a car with good brakes and we hop in and head up to the quarry to find a stone that will be my project for the afternoon. Fabiola confesses to having vertigo but is game for the ride along. We get an incredible view of the area from near the top of the mountain and with Marco instructing I pick a few stones with interesting character and we head back to the workshop. The rest of the afternoon is spent working the marble developing what the stone wants to be, with significant guidance from Marco. And as with most things in Italy, we conclude the day with a glass of wine. It is with deep gratitude to Marco and Fabiola for hosting this remarkable experience. An experience not to be missed.
