About the organisation: DETROIT HIVES

We believe a healthy future for bees reflects a healthy future for humanity. The health of those in our inner-cities, specifically people of color, is often the last to be considered – it’s our mission to change this. By transforming vacant lots into urban bee farms, we revitalize neighborhoods while supporting the conservation of bees.

This is a social impact experience where 100% of what you pay for this experience goes to DETROIT HIVES.

Where you'll be

We transform vacant lots into urban bee farms! Guest will visit a honeybee farm that was once a vacant lot. This vacant lot was once abandoned, and blighted with trash and debris. With the help of the community, and local organizations we revitalize the vacant lots for the conservation, and education of honeybees.

We loved our experience with Tim, Nicole and the bees! Tim and Nicole were very friendly and informative. We learned so much and had a great time with them. The bees were very docile. We were able to suit up and hold potions of the hive and observe all the different roles of the bees and the parts of the colony. It was a fun afternoon and we're so glad that we picked this activity. Highly Recommended!

We had a phenomenal experience and learned so much about the history of Detroit and beekeeping and how they’ve come to intersect in the city. We will carry this experience with us for years to come and feel like we had a rare opportunity to engage with the community in a special way.

This was amazing! Tina nd Nicole were so informational and gave us a hands on experience that my mom and I will never forget. They answered every question we had, and it was evident they had an extensive knowledge on apiculture.
