Experience hosted by Tom

6.5 hours
Includes tickets

What you'll do

Last year 15 million tickets were sold for over 18,000 performances in the West End. We'll explore the past, the present and the future of 'Theatreland' - the most vibrant performing arts scene in the world!

We'll kick off with a historic walking tour journeying back in time past the very first theatres...from the Puritanical era when theatre was banned as sinful, to the renaissance of 'The Restoration' when women were first allowed to act on stage....we'll learn all the fun facts as we pass the most celebrated, iconic Playhouses and Shows, including for instance the world’s longest running play Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap (26,000 Performances since 1952!)

After an opportunity for some pre-theatre refreshments we'll catch an award winning Show and meet an actor of the Production afterwards for drinks and backstage gossip, gaining insight into life behind the curtain - a unique experience to cherish forever!

In the 1930's my grandfather was a Barrow-boy in Covent Garden- pushing exotic fruit and vegetables of all corners of the British Empire from his rickety wooden cart.

It is now my pleasure to hobble the cobbles of the West End in a fruity fashion of an entirely different nature - as a Classically-trained Stage and Screen Actor/Director!

As a 'Cockney' Londoner and Creative with over 10 years in the Profession- I'm excited to share my passion, knowledge and network to bring theatre-lovers a uniquely insightful experience; exploring both sides of the curtain of this business called 'Show'.

Tom was the ultimate guide and theatre companion. He was very knowledgeable about the London theater and acting scene and gave me a fun biking and walking tour of London theater land. I would highly recommend his tour to anyone and it is definitely a highlight of my trip.

If you’re looking for an alternative tour of London and an authentic cultural experience, this is ir. Tom is warm and friendly and immediately puts you at ease with his big smile, his natural humility, and his passion and enthusiasm for theatre, the West End, and acting. His tour is very authentic, bringing the “theatreland” of West End to life with anecdotes from the past, and insights into both the glamour and grit of the industry today. This was a very rich and authentic cultural experience that I have already recommended to many people since attending. I wish Tom every success as both an actor and a tour guide, and hope he continues to offer this AirBNB experience - definitely a hidden treasure in London.

Tom is an actor. In every sense of the word. He is also a Londoner with a deep connection to this amazing city. He is also beautifully authentic in sharing his personal story which gives his participants on the tour a real picture of what it is and takes to be an actor. We started at Seven Dials on Tuesday 14th August late in the afternoon. Tom draws out from his fellow travellers a bit of their own story and keeps relating to you all through the tour. Walking the West End Theatre District provides a rich opportunity for stories and Tom knows many of them. Think of a young Patrick Stewart taking you on a tour. After the tour and a quick snack we saw The Importance of Being Ernest by Oscar Wilde. Tom was full of insightful analysis at interval and later. His acting school friend was in the lead and afterwards we all had a drink at a the pub next door. Atmosphere plus. What a great evening and a highlight of this trip to London.

Tom exceeded all my expectations! A young and much better looking "Shakespeare" met me in the center of the theater district with a blazing smile and welcoming spirit. His knowledge of the theater scene past and present was extensive. I never realized how vast it could be. He pointed out unique landmarks with fascinating stories all along the way. This is a walking tour but I begged for a bike after awhile and he graciously rented two and we were on our way again. Finally ending up at the Globe with a light dinner next door I got The Winter's Tale explained in such a clear way with much of Shakespeare's language finally becoming clear! A wonderful and magical time! Don't miss this as it will deepen your London stay tenfold!

If you want to meet an actor after the show do this. if you like me, found booking last minute tickets to be a hack, this is a nice way of seeing a show and Tom will arrange the tickets. Tom is approachable and authentic.
