What you'll do

This amusing Mountain Bike ride is a scenic descent of 1,700 meters (5570 feet), from the town Cuajimoloyas, in the Sierra Norte Mountains of Oaxaca, to Teotitlán del Valle (the famous picturesque textile town that is down in the valley).

Meet us at Oaxaca City, to begin our vehicle ride up to the mountains, where a delicious local breakfast will be waiting for us. We will then begin our 32 km (19 miles) bike ride down the mountains, overlooking awesome landscapes.

The first part of the ride goes from Cuajimoloyas to its neighbor town Benito Juarez, a 9 km (5.5 mile) stretch that includes the only 2 km (1.2 miles) ascent of the experience. If you choose to skip this up-hill, you can hop on the vehicle to bring you up to the hanging bridge at the top of the mountains, where there are awesome views of the valley.

After enjoying these peaceful moments, we will continue riding all the way down to Teotitlan del Valle. We will arrive at the home of Josefina and Porfirio, where they will share with us a delicious lunch. Their textile workshop is adjacent to their home, where they will show us the interesting techniques they use to create the beautiful rugs that this vibrant town is known for.

There is no doubt that this will be a highlight of your trip.

We may have changes in the itinerary due to precautions with communities due to the COVID-19 issue.

Awesome experience. The first 45 minutes are uphill on a dirt road that winds up through alpine forest, and the altitude means you're breathing hard. The next 90 minutes or so are downhill and FUN. Definitely worth the money!!!!!!

Unforgettable experience that left us in awe with admiration and accomplishment. The adventure starts with a tasty local breakfast which is a great ice breaker for the group. The bike ride begins near the top of the mountain, and along the way, Carlos does an amazing job of stopping people where necessary to take in the views and to teach a few facts about the region. He also does a great job of making sure EVERYONE on the trip is having a good time and feels comfortable on their bikes. One of the stops during the trail is the scenic bridge, where you get to explore the top of the mountain and walk across. The biking trail down the mountain is challenging. I have experience biking on roads, but the mountain can be difficult for some. The terrain is full of rocks and is very dusty, so you must pay attention and brake often. Again, Carlos and the other guides along the ride are very helpful in tips on how to ride down effectively. After the ride, you end in Teotitlán, the town where most of the weaving takes place. You visit a family who has their own space and learn how they dye the wool, thread, and even have the chance to purchase the rugs and other products. On the way back to Oaxaca City - the group takes a short trip to a local Mezcal producer where you receive a brief tour to view the process, followed by a tasting - including flavored mezcals such as Chocolate with Mint, Cappachino, and Pistacio for those that do not want the typical mezcals. This experience provided the best views we had in Oaxaca. Nothing quite like seeing everything from that high up. Carlos and his team did an amazing job with the group and made it an unforgettable experience.

A fantastic day of adventure. I had so much fun with this experience. Fernando and Yefra were kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable hosts. Loved the breakfast spot we went to where a group of ladies was cooking on a wood-fire stove. The biking was fun and they were very attentive to people of different speeds. A wonderful day trip.
