After his studies around the world, Gael wanted to find a way to revitalise his Mayan culture through gastronomy. The bees were just another significant way to open the flood gates. Together with Efrain an official master not only for official entities but in the blood through generations and generations. His last name means bees, honey and world in Mayan ancestral language. You are welcome to experience this great team work to extract the indigenous knowledge, the history and the flavors of this unique experience. We are just showcasing the roots of our territory the union of culture & nature

Where you'll be

We will be having breakfast with the bees. This will be a little tribute to the bees. A moment to dedicate to this great social and nature helpers. A moment to learn from them. We are going to our bee hospital, place where we relocate the bees after a construction or deforestation and place they will be before going back to the jungle. Is a humble but full with passion place. We are self sustain and by participating you are helping the beerescue

An incredible experience in a truly unique location. Tried some honey that I'll probably never get to try again, and saw some incredible bees and beehives. Loved the experience, and would go again.

Unforgettable experience in a beautiful location. We were prepared a delicious breakfast that showcased local fruits and grains and, of course, honey! Gael shared some facts about the different species of bees we were viewing and their importance in the Mayan culture, it was wonderful to see someone who cares so deeply about the preservation of history, culture, nature and the connection that they share. The bees were not shy but they were not bothersome to have fly around you. We would recommend this experience to everyone. Very enlightening and we will never forget the honey that we tasted.

We had a wonderful time learning about the native stingless bees! The location is absolutely amazing and we were greeted by wild monkeys swinging freely in the trees. Gael was very relaxed and welcoming and he allowed us to explore his stunning jungle villas before our bee experience. Our children asked if we could leave our current accommodation and stay with Gael in one of his four unique, peaceful, and beautiful rentals! Our time with the bees was incredibly informative and interactive. Gael was respectful of the insects and was happy to answer any questions we had. The breakfast that followed was delicious and all it was beautiful to watch Gael’s father make sourdough bread (with a starter from Gael’s grandmother) in the large wood stove. We were welcome to lounge at the pool or to further explore the area following our meal. I would recommend this experience to anyone who is looking for a unique, welcoming, and knowledgeable morning in Playa del Carmen!

Gael had a super smile from the first moment. He was happy to meet new people and met us at our location to personally drive us to his home and bee hives. I had no idea what to expect but my son wanted to experience this. He took us into his jungle location home where he maintains several hives and explained the history of the native bees in the region comparing them to European bees, African bees etc. He opened the hives which was so surprising. They were not the honeycombs that we see in the US, It was a strange structure looking like Moroccan mud houses, deep brown and the bees were small and stuck to doing their business as we observed them. Then Gael stuck a spoon into one mound and the honey oozed out onto the spoon., We all tasted the unique flavors. HE opened 3 hives for us. Just seeing the difference in structure and taste opens up your mind to the diversity of all creatures on earth. We were then served a tropical breakfast with a unique cacao drink, fruit, eggs, bread, everything home made from their kitchen. We met his parents too and enjoyed our conversation as we all spoke Spanish but I suspect their family spoke English as well, Gael did. I would repeat this experience in a heartbeat.

Wow, what an incredible experience! Gael picked us up from right near our hotel in PDC and took us to his home in the jungle to show us the bee rescue. We were able to taste a set of honeys, comparing the flavor and texture between different species of bee and different regions of Mexico to really appreciate the unique flavor of the native Mayan honey. Then we had an incredible three-course breakfast of foods from local producers, and finally we were able to see the tiny native bees up close when Gael opened up a hive for us. The whole time, he shared stories of how Playa has changed as he grew up, interesting facts about local agriculture and Mayan cuisine. My parents and fiancé loved this experience too! It wasn’t just a pleasant and informative morning trip - I feel honored to have witnessed the program’s conservation efforts. Recommended for every slow-food enthusiast who saw the Netflix show about Melipona bees and just HAS to try it for themselves, and anyone looking for a delicious vegetarian breakfast in a slice of the jungle.
