What you'll do

PLEASE NOTE: We are in a typhoon season but steamy and hot, it may get very humid and somewhat uncomfortable for some people, please wear appropriate clothing (some layered clothes and towels, etc.)

We will meet at Kurama Station of Eizan Railway. It takes about 30 minutes from Demachiyanagi to Kurama Station.

After entering the Kurama Temple gate, we will hike up the mountain for about 30 minutes. There are many temples/shrines along the way. (if you prefer, there is a cable train)

At the top of Kurama Temple, we will have snack/lunch overlooking the northern mountain part of Kyoto. (there is a limited seating, so we might have to sit at other places).

After the break, we will start hiking to the peak of Mt. Kurama path, then to Okuno-In. If we are lucky, we might see some deer along the way.

At Kifune Shrine, we will try a fortune-telling slip. It is different from other temples/shrines. At Kifune Shrine, we will draw a paper and gently place it on the water. Your fortune will appear on the paper.

After that, we will take a bus to Kibuneguchi Station then transfer to the train to Demachiyanagi Station.

The whole trip takes about 3.5 to 5 hours, depending on the pace & the number of the breaks, as well as time to take pictures.
Other things to note
Please BRING YOUR LUNCH. There is no place to purchase your lunch throughout the hiking.

Also the train/bus fares are NOT included.

Mountain climbing is more boring in summer, but Yudai is very friendly. Kifune shrine is very good, a good place to escape the heat. If you can help book a restaurant place, it would be great. Autumn will be beautiful.

If you stay 2 days in Kyoto, you definitely should follow Yudai with his tour. He will show you temples and shrines that you will never visit by yourself. He will patiently explain you the story of each temple and for any question you might have, he will have a reply. During our walk, we had the pleasure to be supported by his friend and photographer Shi: so we had also a photographer that took picture of our walk. I'm not very sportive: the walk is far from being difficult! You have steps and the hike is never too difficult. Even older persons were faster than me :) just to underline that it is suitable for everybody. It is a not to miss experience if you stay in Kyoto!

This hike with Yudai is definitely worth one’s time. On the way up the mountain, Yudai explains everything you come across—from the shrines to the rituals behind them. The hike itself is quite easy and very pleasant. Overall, this experience is great for someone who wants to see a bit of nature and learn about history and tradition at the same time!

My parents and I came a bit late and Yudai was kind enough to wait! Even though it was rainy, the scenery was beautiful and the hike wasn’t difficult at all! Yudai’s friend Shin, took many great photo of us as well. Yudai and Shin were so friendly and nice that it felt like I was hiking with friends. Yudai was very informative and I learned so much from him. Overall a wonderful experience that I highly recommend! Thank you for having us!
