What you'll do

Kagurazaka is sometimes called Tokyo's "Little Kyoto." This
neighborhood is known for its expansive gourmet restaurant scene with politicians and celebrities often coming here to eat and play. You may even chance upon a geisha walking through the cobblestone alleys on occasion. With more than 10 Michelin rated restaurants it is the mostdensely concentrated collection of Michelin rated restaurants in the world.

The best places are off the beaten path of the main streets and many actively fight against publicity in order to keep the number of customers to a manageable level -- some have even gone so far as to reject Michelin ratings. Finding some of these best places can be quite a challenge for the uninitiated -- even most Japanese people have trouble finding these hidden gems.

Unlike my other tours, this is a private tour for a single booking at
a time. If you will allow me act as your private guide I will do my
best to give you a more memorable experience than the typical izakayas (a sort of traditional Japanese style pub) that you might find surfing standard travel guides and restaurant review sites.

For groups larger than 2 please let me know so that I might ensure
that we all fit -- some izakayas are quite small.
Other things to note
◆This is Private tour , he fee here is only for guide services.
Please note that you will also be
responsible for paying the bill for both the guide and yourselves at all of the restaurants we visit.

I used to be a writer, but now I generally take it easy (though I still sometimes blog at Foodies Journey In Tokyo).

I am food lover and I wrote about food , so I have lived in the Kagurazaka neighborhood for over 10 years. I have traveled all over the world and eaten all sorts of delicious local foods, and I love to interact with people from other countries. In my travels, I have had really delicious meals in places I could only have visited with local people, and I would like to do the same for others. Let me help make your trip a wonderful one by showing you amazing Japanese food.

I also offer an breakfast tour and an afternoon lunch tour. Check out my profile if you are interested.

Kaoru is a great tour guide showing us all the hidden restaurants in Izakaya, we love this unique experience. And she has also provided a list of to-go restaurants after our tour : ) We will follow her guide in our next trips to Tokyo! After the tour, we contacted Kaoru for some additional information about where to go for sightseeing and where to buy certain things, Kaoru went all out to help to arrange and offer suggestions. She is definitely our Japan guru! Thank you so much Kaoru, and I hope to meet you again in our next trip : )

This was a great experience I couldn’t have done on my own. This was my second time to Tokyo, and I wanted to experience something extra unique. I learned about an area of Tokyo I was inexperienced in, and wouldn’t have learned about any of the hidden jewels on my own. I definitely recommend this experience to others wanting a small personalized experience at one restaurant.

Absolutely amazing experience. Kaoru is such a lovely, friendly and passionate person and the evening flew by while she took us on a tour of all the backstreets of Kagurazaka learning about the castle, the samurai drinking spots and the bars and restaurants in the area. We visited shrines and saw a geisha! We then went to a wonderful hidden izakaya for shabu-shabu and oh my what a fantastic food adventure that was! We tried so many things that we would otherwise not have known about, and the whole family sharing dining experience was amazing! On top of the wonderful food, we tried lots of different drinks as Kaoru booked the all you can drink menu, and the conversation flowed so freely all evening. Kaoru is such wonderful company, and we lived sharing stories of travel, food, family and life. We would definitely book another experience with Kaoru in the future as she has so much knowledge of fabulous places to eat in the city. She also provided loads of amazing recommendations of other places to try different foods for breakfast, dinner and lunch, and took us to the supermarket after finishing dinner so we could buy some yuzu sake to take home! Cannot recommend highly enough! Such good value for money and an experience we will remember forever :)

Come hungry for this! Kaoru took us on a fantastic walk that left us wanting to stay in the area next time we come back to Japan, and then brought us to exactly the kind of izakaya I've wanted to visit but never been able to. The sake flowed freely and the food was delicious, but my favorite part was swapping stories with Kaoru all evening long. It was a lovely time!

Kaoru provided a wonderful insight to the community of Kagurazaka or "Little Kyoto". The walking tour was intriguing, taking in a 200 year old bath house, modern architecture, traditional homes and hidden Michelin Star restaurants. We would not have discovered this area without her. The dinner in a small Izakaya was fabulous. Kaoru expertly cooked the Shabu Shabu as we talked about food and Japan. She is delightful company and we had a most enjoyable evening. High recommend.

We had a really nice tour around the Izakaya we booked. A lot of the history of this part of the town was explained to us. The Izakaya itself was in a beautiful traditional building. Kaoru ordered a meal and sake "all you can drink" for us. She explained the different servings and the different types of sake. That was what we hoped and what we got ... but there was so much more. Kaoru-san is such a kind, warmhearted and caring person. She helped us with our struggle eating a whole fish with chopsticks and fileted it like a mother would do it for their children. We had so much fun. After 10 minutes with kaoru-san we felt like we've found a new friend in Tokyo. As big foreigners we had big hunger compared to normal size japanese people. Kaoru felt that we were still hungry and she showed us one of her favourite Wagyu Bowl restaurants. We would never be gone their, because it was really tiny and no english anywhere. But with our personal guide we were confident and she showed us how locals would eat this kind of food. We really appreciated this tour and all the food locations she recommended to us. It was our most favourit tour we booked on AirBnB.
