What you'll do

Even our local visitors can discover something they didn't know about our country's history on this fun and interesting village walk!

We start off in the Main Rd of the village and learn about the earliest inhabitants, the culture at the time, the architecture and much more.
We turn up into the back streets of the village to view the oldest buildings, learning about the people who lived in them and hear their stories. After visiting a number of historical places we find ourselves back in the Main road and end at the huge church in the centre of town.
Other things to note
Dress comfortably and have good walking shoes on. It is a leisurely two hour walk around the village on normal streets.

I fell in love with Franschhoek more than a decade ago when I moved here and have done extensive research into its colourful history. I love showing it off to my guests. Steeped in history and surrounded by great beauty, the village history walk is an awesome way to learn about the area and have fun doing it!

As a registered tourist guide, it is my absolute pleasure to spend time with our visitors, both local and from far off lands. Franschhoek is so much more than just food and wine, although we do those excellently, for sure.

It is wonderful to show our guests our fabulous natural spaces, stunning landscapes, beautiful birds and get them involved in the fun things to do in the village. I hope you'll join me soon.

Where you'll be

We will view a number of National Monuments around the village, each with its own history, first inhabitant and special story.
Please note, we do not visit the monument or the museum as these are self-explanatory and available for you to visit at your leisure.
We rather take to the back streets of the village and look at all the interesting old buildings, the architecture and hear the stories of the oldest residents who started the village.

My husband and I really enjoyed our tour. We felt like we understood Franschhoek so much better, than the shops and cafes on the Main Street.
