What you'll do

The day will be divided into two parts; we will kick start the day by shopping for ingredients in the biggest fresh produce market in Nairobi. Then we'll head on to the the kitchen where we'll prepare and cook our delectable meals.

In this experience you'll get an introduction and history of the foods that we'll be making for the day.

We will make three meals and a condiment to accompany them. The cooking session will take about four hours from start to finish. After this you can sit and enjoy the fruits of your labour or carry away the food to enjoy with your friends who weren't able to make it.

The menu will be communicated upon booking and any allergies discussed so that everyone will be accommodated.

Come, let's enjoy a home cooked, Kenyan, meal together!

If, however, you would love to just turn up and enjoy a home-cooked Kenyan meal without the hassle of going to the market, I've got you covered! Come experience a homemade Kenyan brunch ;-) https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/365477
Other things to note
Please provide any allergies to food that you might have.
The experience is open to people of all ages , however, you'll be personally responsible for those below twelve years of age.

Agnes was an absolutely spectacular host. She was extremely knowledgeable about everything about Kenyan food and culture. She and her sister were extremely talkative and helpful in showing us how to make the food, the trip through the open air market was fascinating, and the food we made was delicious. We also went several hours over the time limit because we were just sitting around chatting with them and drinking chai. This is easily one of the most fun things we did in our 10 day trip to Kenya, and would absolutely do it again. I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone. We left feeling enriched by conversation with an expert on Kenyan cooking and food.

Agnes and her sister gave me a wonderful day. I was warmly welcomed and my experience on the market and in the cooking class was simply outstanding. I really enjoyed the fact that Agnes explained all the questions I had and that it was a hands-on experience while cooking. During my visit to the market and the public transport ride to the cooking location, I felt in safe hands with Agnes. I don't want to miss this awesome experience! I learned a lot and had fun 👍😊

Agnes and Monica were wonderful and I learned so much about cooking from this class. Starting in the market was so much fun because I got to experience what it’s like to go out and negotiate and find the best veggies and meat for meals, and how to navigate a heavily congested market with relative ease. Along the way Agnes answered questions both about her class and about Kenya/our travel plans, which helped a lot in understanding how to use public transportation. When we got to her cooking location we met her sister Monica and spent the afternoon laughing and talking as though we were old friends. They really made us feel at home and it was the best possible way to start our trip. I highly recommend this class and trying their homemade Masala Chai, you will not be disappointed.

I learned a lot about the food and culture of Kenya through Agnes. It's not only the food that I get to learn to prepare , but it was an experience to step into the lives of a new culture and learn about the fabrics of the society. I felt like I was exploring and learning about how Kenyans live through food. Thank you Agnes again for bringing me this great adventure !

Agnes and her sister provided a warm and welcoming experience to cook traditional Kenyan recipes and learn more about their culture. The market experience in itself is an added bonus. I would recommend this to anyone visiting to Nairobi!
