What you'll do
FROM OCT 1 TO MARCH 31, A MINIMUM OF 3 PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE THIS BOOKING.
On our first stop we’ll visit the ancient ruins in Salona, which was the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia about 2000 years ago, as well as being one of the five biggest towns in Roman empire.
From here we’ll travel to the village of Klis, which is home to an imposing medieval fortress, perched high on a hilltop. This fortress became castle to many Croatian kings and served as a defence against the Ottoman invasion during the early 16th century. More latterly, it has featured in the blockbuster television series “Game of Thrones”.
Next, we head to Trogir, a city which has had 2300 years of cultural and architectural influence by Greeks, Romans, Venetians and Austrians. In 1997, Trogir was recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site. Following our guided tour of Trogir, you will have an opportunity to stop for something to eat during your free time – the choice of restaurants in Trogir is great!
Other things to note
This tour involves some walking though its not gruelling and on hot days please bring some water, hats and please put sunscreen if you have sensitive skin

Hi I work with a small team ... Tonci - a graduate in English and Russian teaching, but who's always been a big history buff ever since he was a child. Therefore, becoming a guide was a really logical decision for him connecting many of my passions such as, the before mentioned love for history, but also music, cultural heritage, trivia and especially, food! Marin. who is an anthropology masters from Zadar University.
Hi! I’m Jadran. I was born in Split and have spent my whole life here. From a very early age I developed a passion for history which led me to study history at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. There, I studied and broadened my knowledge of local history. Also, I learned to teach and talk about history in a fun and informative way.

Where you'll be
Salona is just outside Split and is a must for those who wonder what the Romans did for Split. Klis fortress is the stuff of dreams and for you GOT fans, its unmissable. Trogir is simply beautiful and stacked with 2300 years of history.

Our tour was led by Jadrian (sp?, the English equivalent is “Adrian”) and he was great! He is very knowledgeable and fun to be with, and he accommodated my rather slow ascent up the steep trail to Klis. We had some extra time at the end of the tour and so he made an unscheduled stop at a small castle in KIastela!
The tour was interesting, fun, and educational. We also had some great views of the surrounding mountains and sea. Highly recommended.

Jadrian from Gecko Tours took the two of us on an amazing tour. He friendly and entertaining, and he had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the places we visited. Since we're interested in history, we learned a lot. He told the histories of Salona and Klis Fortress as if had been personally involved, and also led us through Klis from the viewpoint of the attackers, demonstrating at each step why the fortress proved impregnable. His information about Trogir was also both entertaining and enlightening.
Jadrian also tailored the tour to our interests and somewhat slow pace, and at the end of the day he offered to show us a small castle that was on the way back to Split--which he also knew a lot about, even though it wasn't on the itinerary. We had a great day with a great tour guide!
