Hike Mindfully: Melt Stress Away

Boulder, United States

Experience hosted by Beth

3.5 hours

What you'll do

These hikes are more than just a walk in the woods. They are an invitation to arrive solidly in the present moment, letting go of the chatter in your mind, the emotional ups and downs of daily life, and the fears or uncertainty of the past and future. We will get in touch with the earth, ourselves, and each other, in a container of compassion and the beauty of nature.

In the first part of the hike, we’ll practice processes to clear your mental chatter, tune in to the present moment, and open your creative channels. I’ll teach a practice, and then we’ll hike silently for about 15 - 20 minutes implementing the practice before debriefing it. In the second half, we’ll open the space for additional quiet time, or mindful conversation, depending on the group. Mindfulness practices will be tailored to the group preferences and experience level.

The basic hike is easy to moderate, 3 - 4 hours in the Boulder Foothills, depending on the group's pace. These are slower hikes to allow us to take in everything. We start at Chautauqua, & take a 3 mile loop hike up to a lookout. Elevation gain is mild to moderate, with one short steep section to the lookout. See "notes" for group discounts.

I am the founder of Mindful Living, Learning, & Communication, LLC. I have hiked the front range of Boulder and the high country since 2001. I have always harnessed nature as a healing force in my life, as well as a powerful reminder of something bigger than 'us,' and an awesome mirror to the inner life. Walking the foothills mindfully helped me recover from my mother’s death in 2001, and through many life transitions since then. I completed PassageWorks Mindful Teacher Training in 2016, after studying Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and spiritual teachers such as Thich Nhat Hanh & Tara Brach. I also trained in Empowered, Compassionate Communication to tap into your inner wisdom. In 2016, I used my PhD in education to add more educational components to mindful hiking, so people could achieve a deeper and more transformative experience.

Where you'll be

We'll meet at the Chautauqua Ranger Cottage, Boulder. We'll start off the beaten path, through a little known quiet dense forest. We'll go through sunny & shady patches, & smell a 'caramel' tree. I'll take you up to a special lookout where locals make chairs from the sandstone. We'll end with great views.

Denver guests: Use RTD bus or Lyft to Boulder.

Hikes may be fine tuned based on factors like fitness level, timing, & weather.

Beth is a wonderful guide. Along with sharing her deep knowledge of the trails and visual treasures along the way, Beth seamlessly blends mindfulness practice into the hiking experience. This was a one of a kind experience that I highly recommend.

This was a good way to help me get fully and totally grounded. Beth was Authentic and a good human being to do this with. The universe put me in touch with a lovely human being who is very well grounded in mindfulness practice. I highly recommend this hike for anyone who is a workaholic and needs a gentle hand at getting re-grounded in a wholesome gentle way.

Beth's mindfulness tour was exactly what I needed going into a solo vacation for my birthday in Colorado. The concepts of mindfulness we discussed are ones I remembered throughout my trip and ones I know I'll continue to consider for a long time.

I had a wonderful experience with Beth! I had never done a mindful hike before and it was my first time in Boulder so I had no idea what to expect. Beth was great and really accommodating with arranging logistics for the hike. She was very communicative and made sure I got what I needed from the hike and was really focused on teaching me great skills I could take away with me from the hike. She knows her stuff and is also definitely well acquainted with the area. I enjoyed my session with her and would definitely do it again! She’s also opened my eyes to mindfulness and I will definitely take what I learned!

I had a great experience hiking with Beth. We spent three hours hiking through beautiful landscapes, sometimes in silence, sometimes trying to connect with the environment. I left the experience feeling relaxed and connected to nature and my body.
