What you'll do

We keep you safe with plenty of social distancing!

This is both a walking and tasting tour. We start this 90 minute experience outside learning Utah's distillation history from the mid 1800's to present day.

Then, we adjourn inside to our tasting table with plenty of room and outline the top Utah spirit distillers and taste four samples of local Whiskey!

The experience continues as we venture outside for a 1.25 mile / 8 block walking tour of downtown Salt Lake City, where we show you the sights of its vast whiskey history, and finish at Salt Lake's hottest pub with a final tasting of local Whiskey!

Please note; final location subject to either group size, or local guidelines as set forth of Covid-19 rules.

Snow, rain, shine, Covid-19 or Protests, you'll be rewarded from beginning to end!

I love to talk and teach about whiskey! Not only do I personally guide trips to Scotland each year, but also host dozens of whiskey tasting events in Salt Lake City. What better way to learn about Salt Lake's local whiskey history than to walk and taste it!

Where you'll be

You see the inside and underbelly of Salt Lake; from the first Social Hall to the secret entrance of the exclusive Alta Club to who owned the first distillery and where whiskey was first sold in the 1800's! And, take a trip down Commerce Ave, formerly the 'red light' district!

This was an amazing tour. Definitely recommend it if you’re in the area. Jim was the best at story telling and explaining whiskey.

I booked this experience for a small group of my friends. My buddies were very skeptical at first but within in fifteen minutes they were telling me how much fun they were having. Trust me this experience is a must and the guide Jim is very personable he reminds you of that cool uncle you wish you had. Being from the Midwest we feel like this is a tipping service so throw a few dollars Jim’s way!

The whiskey & history tour in SLC is a MUST. You can’t miss this experience when you visit or even if you are a local. I highly recommend this experience at the beginning of your trip because Jim offers a ton of experience within the city and the surrounding areas. Jim not only explained the history of whiskey in SLC, but also a lot of general history of the SLC area. I personally did not know very much about the area prior to this event, but it was so fun and was really informative. We signed up and we’re a part of a group of 5 (including Jim) which made the experience very personal because we could ask as many questions as possible. This experience exceeded both mine and Carlie’s expectations as it was an incredible value. I love that the experience combines a classroom setting tasting experience with a stroll through SLC to a phenomenal bar/restaurant.

Super informative and fun on all levels. Jim not only gave us a better understanding of Utah history and its whiskey, but of the planning and architecture of of downtown SLC as well. Highly recommend!

Jim was so engaging and knowledgeable about the history of ask the whiskeys we sampled. I don't consider myself a big whiskey done but Jim found whiskey that even I liked! Great for dates or just to learn more about the region!

Jim is an absolutely phenomenal host. He is a true story teller and listener. He adapts everything to the guests and makes for a truly spectacular time. We messed up our times and missed the original event and Jim went out of his way to host us later anyway. Amazing knowledge of whiskey, wines, and the region. I can’t recommend this enough.
