What you'll do

We will go on a stroll through the beautiful old town of Zürich and visit artisan high-end chocolatiers and confectioneries. Some of them are traditional family owned businesses that have been around for up to six generations, others are small craft chocolate makers, which have just started their journey into the highly interesting, inspiring and delicious field of cacao. On route, you will learn about Swiss chocolate history, discover chocolate as an artisan handcraft and learn how to sense some of the 600 aromas that can be contained in cacao. We will sample various sweet specialties at every stop along the way and will sit-down in a historical 19th century café at the end of our 2,5hour tour for a final tasting session where you will also get to try cacao beans and some more unusual creations, while you learn about the whole process of chocolate making.

As a Swiss-Colombian, I grew up at the cultural root of cacao and chocolate. I found my true passion for the Food of the Gods (as cacao is called botanically) though when I moved back to Switzerland after some years abroad and started to re-discover the sweet side of my home country. I became fascinated by the rich history and interesting processing behind chocolate and how is has been an important and valuable crop for so many different civilizations across time and space, from the ancient Mesoamerica to this tiny country in the middle of Europe, Switzerland. Out of my interest grew a passion: I started to visit all the traditional artisan confectioneries and chocolatiers I grew up with as a child and to seek out new craft chocolate brands. I visited cacao plantations in tropical countries, participated in cacao ceremonies and once in while attempted to make my own truffles. Wanting to share my love for chocolate and the beauty of Switzerland with friends and visitors from all around the world, I've put together a tour of my favorite chocolatey corners in Zürich.

Stephanie provided a great, personal experience. She is wealth of knowledge behind Chocolate, the history of chocolate and cocoa, and how it relates to Switzerland. Visiting a handful of unique chocolate/sweets shops was great, and all of them had something very different to offer. I highly recommend doing this experience with Stephanie. You will not regret it.
