What you'll do
We will hike on a little-known trail in the heart of Mt. Charleston, away from the stifling heat and oppressive crowds in Las Vegas. Our chosen trail will be a loop hike, so you'll have fresh scenery the whole way. The trail starts out at the bottom of a lush (by Mojave Desert standards) green canyon with tight limestone walls. After a short while, the trail opens up a bit, and the canyon is filled with impressive ponderosa pines, delicious wax currants (when in season), and so much more. As we ascend the canyon, we'll see both of Nevada's official state trees (single leaf pinon and bristlecone pine), our state flower (sagebrush), and probably our state bird (mountain bluebird). After about a mile, we'll climb out of the canyon and onto a promontory with phenomenal views west to Mummy Mountain and east to the vast open desert.
This hike totals around three miles, with under 1000 feet of elevation gain. I will hike at a pace under 2 MPH so you can enjoy the scenery and take photos. It's trail the whole way.
Other things to note
We will be out-of-doors. Weather and terrain are ever-changing. I am prepared for emergencies, but the basics are up to you. Please bring clothing and food/water appropriate to the adventure.

I have been hiking and guiding in Southern Nevada for more than 30 years. Over that time, I have found countless hidden gems, unknown to most hikers, where you can experience the natural side of Southern Nevada without the bustling crowds. I am also an experienced naturalist, with substantial knowledge of local flora, which I'll share along the way. Join me on a hike that I have hand-selected not only for its beauty, but also for its seclusion. I will take you on trails that even most locals don't know about, to destinations that have to be seen to be believed.

Where you'll be
This trail means a lot to me because it was the first trail to show me what was available off the beaten path on Mt. Charleston. Even on days when the mountain is swamped with tourists, it's not uncommon for me to hike this entire loop and not see a single other hiker. Our chosen hike has diverse and plentiful vegetation, unbeatable views, and varied terrain. Truly, this is one of my favorite hikes on Mt. Charleston.
Had an awesome time exploring a side of Las Vegas that normally you wouldn't see unless you actually look for it. Saw a lot of nature that was better seen in person than in books or photos. To be honest, I wouldn't mind experiencing it again in the future.

This was one of the best bookings to date on AirBnB. Alan was super accommodating and rearranged his schedule to make time for me while in the Henderson/Vegas area. We met in a secret location and hit the unmarked trail head. Right away I knew I was on to something special as Alan started to narrate the landscape and educate me on local bushes, berries and wildlife. It was a full nature experience including the pristine and breathtaking views which all lead up the million dollar vantage point. Thank you for ending my stay in Nevada with one of the most memorable hikes and adventures in the area to date, as well as the endless great conversations. When back in the area I'll be hooking up for a new adventure for sure. Warmest Regards eh! ;)
