What you'll do

In this 3 hour class we will work on one of several projects. We will make a bbq steak turner, a cheese slicer, or a bottle opener. You do not need any prior experience and this class is suitable for ages 12+. No lifting required and little strength necessary, though hand-eye coordination always helps (READ DISCLAIMER AT BOTTOM PRIOR TO SCHEDULING).

1) We will start with a quick safety brief and put on the required safety apparel. (apron, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection)
2) We will start the forges and the fun!
3) I will demonstrate each step of the process on the item you would like to make
4) You will begin to forge your piece. I will be there each step of the way to give advice or direction.
5) We finish your first forged iron project!

DISCLAIMER: Participants will be using hammers to move hot iron. This means that will be exerting physical energy and your arm may become sore from hammering! Our shop may also be warm for many, especially if it is during our hot months. We have plenty of water and fans to help you keep cool. If you have any disabilities that may prevent you from standing and hammering for long periods of time, please let me know prior to scheduling
Other things to note
Closed toed shoes are mandatory and those without will not be able to participate. Cotton clothing is recommended. Avoid synthetic clothing since it can melt. Jeans and a cotton top is best.

Myself and my father, Rodger are the owners of Grizzly Iron, Inc. which is an architectural iron and blacksmith shop that has been in business for over 30 years. Rodger is a full-time blacksmith and has trained with some of the best smiths in the world. We both have a passion for teaching and passing on our knowledge of this amazing trade.

Where you'll be

You will be immersed into the world of blacksmithing and ironwork surrounded by large industrial machines from a different time. Some of these would be considered antiques but we use them as tools in our craft.

We are right on the edge of downtown Phoenix and a 10 minute drive from the airport.

Superior level of teaching here! Grizz took what could be a very intimidating process and broke it down into easily accomplish-able steps. If you have ever had the desire to try forge work, this is a great place to start!
