What you'll do

Join us and find your personal fire by friction and spark of life!

You will get to try your hand at different methods of making fire with primitive methods! Hand drill, bow drill, tandem bow drill and flint steel.

We will discuss and show you how to process material to put together a bow drill friction fire kit (bow, spindle, hearth board and tinder). Next we will practice these methods hands on and then take a short walk around our neighborhood to meet some plants and discover the fire making materials available even in our urban setting!

These fire making methods were the same used by primitive people all over the world. Learning to make fire by primitive methods, can teach people great appreciation for the simple things we have today... like the ease of turning a light switch. Fire by Friction is a skill that connects all of humanity in that ALL of our ancestors made fire as a main stay of living.

Consider exploring an ancient art and learn more about the natural resources around you. With learning a skill comes self-confidence, and with that self confidence we become a more fully alive human being.
Other things to note
This is a physically demanding class. We will be working on the ground some when actually practicing these techniques.
