Where you'll be

As to not overharvest, we never take the same path twice. We will likely venture deep in Forest Park, Mt. Hood National Forest, or one of the many other lush food forests close to Portland. And while we'll start on a designated trail, there will be times we might veer off the beaten path. Wherever we end up and whatever we find, we will certainly get some nourishing nature time within some of the Pacific Northwest's oldest trees.

Matt's Foraging Adventure was a unique opportunity to learn from a guy with experience, and meet some other people with similar interests. I am now hooked and plan to start foraging regularly. Matt took us to the woods and had us focus on mushrooms since this is the season. We found a good number of Shaggy Parsols to bring home, and learned a lot about what not to eat. I recommend reading a field guide before the experience to get the most out of it.

I bought this experience as a surprise for my boyfriend and he absolutely loved it!! The weather was perfect, just after a light rain, and he talked about his experience with me all evening! He came back with a bag full of mushrooms and even some fresh ginger root!

Doing this wild food foraging hike was a very interesting experience for me and my friends. Matt was friendly and easy to talk to. When we arrived at his place, he showed us some books and he made sure that we were aware of some of the basic guidelines in looking for mushrooms and berries. We went up to an area near Mirror Lake Trailhead and one of the bonuses while we were there was, we got to see Mt. Hood! If you have never done wild food foraging, this is highly recommended.

Matt is an amazing person. We had so much fun getting to know each other, frolicking in the forest, and foraging. We found some big oyster mushrooms and even went back to his place to cook them up. He really loves to be in nature and is a great person to be around. I will always have fond memories of our time together. It was the highlight of my trip to Portland.

We had such a fun time foraging with Matt! After a really picturesque drive along the Columbia River Gorge, we were able to explore the wonderful forests of the PNW and with Matt's help and knowledge were able to identify and snack on some amazing natural produce! Matt helped us distinguish between different types of plants, what to look for and most importantly what was edible! Matt was a really friendly host who obviously loves what he does and takes pride in it! Already looking forward to our next foraging trip!

Matt was an amazing host! He made us feel very welcome in his home and also gauged our interests to choose a location to fit all our needs. This was very fun as a solo traveller, and Matt has a lot of knowledge in foraging and was very hands-on. I recommend this experience to everyone!
