We’ll talk to the farmers about their produce and their farms to gain a better understanding of life in this beautiful Caribbean town. Knowing how to use tropical vegetables and fruits will have you eating and cooking like a local in no time at all. The market is also a well loved social hub for locals and foreigners alike and is a great place to get the real flavor of Puerto Viejo. From organic veggies to artesanal bread to handmade jewelry to traditional fresh cheeses, you’ll get to know the producers and creators behind this bustling and thriving market. Where you'll be
The market has grown a lot in the past 15 years, wrapped around the picturesque Casa del Cultura, it has two entrances. We’ll walk around the whole market where we’ll talk to farmers, artists and producers about their wares and lives in this bustling and beautiful area.

We'd already spent two weeks in CR, one of which was spent buying our own stuff and cooking our own breakfasts/dinners (usually.) As a result, we had some knowledge about the local foods, but Sam - the guide - really helped flesh out our understanding. She knew the clients, their niches, and helped personalize our needs and match them to vendors able to deliver what we wanted. (As in, my wife is vegetarian, and while I am not, we weren't keen on meats, so we didn't focus much time at all on those.)
Sam allowed us time to interact with the vendors, translating as needed, and helping us come to a better understanding of the bounty that's available at the Puerto Viejo farmers' market.
I did select the "something else" option - but its a niggling suggestion: would would help, perhaps, would be some added info on how to store (shelf life) the products of the market.

Had a very enjoyable experience going from stall to stall learning about each type of produce, where it’s from, it’s history, how it’s prepared, and speaking to the farmers. I picked up some pineapples and avocados when I was done, they tasted incredible .
