What you'll do
I will instruct you on how to taste sake and marry it with various foods. After a brief lecture about the manufacturing process and characteristics of this famous rice wine, you will sample four different types. I'll teach you how to read sake labels and you'll discover its different textures and flavors. We'll then try five samples of food pairings with our sake, including several kinds of local miso, fresh vegetables, and Japanese sweets. You will figure out what type of sake is your favorite. Around 5 PM, our tasting will be done and I will then take you to a popular sake store that carries a good selection of local varieties from individual brewers from all over the country. The shop, which has been in business for 170 years, has a cozy sake bar that becomes busy with people after work. I will not be able to stay with you, but you'll be able to enjoy the sake and atmosphere yourself since you will have learned how to appreciate this special Japanese drink.
Other things to note
Sake is served 4 kinds of labels, each of them are 50 ml in a cup and 200 ml in total amount.
I will take you to a popular local sake store/sake bar in Yotsuya after the class.

I am a certified sake sommelier and a fermented food instructor. I'm passionate about sharing Japanese food culture with Japanese food lovers from all over the world. For several years, I've been cooking Japanese food for foreign visitors and I'm always excited to meet new people and share Japanese culture with my guests and foodie friends. Now, I'd love to share amazing Japanese sake and have you experience something new.
Where you'll be
I will pick you up at the meeting point, in front of Yotsuya Shinsei Church and preschool, which is just over a 5-minute walk from Yotsuya Station. After our sake-tasting session, I will show you a popular local liquor store on the way back to Yotsuya Station.
I really enjoyed learning about the world of sake. Fukuko-san shared her knowledge of sake with great love and passion. I now feel I can go to a store in Japan or in my home town and select a bottle for purchase with more confidence. I highly recommend this sake tasting class if you want to learn about the different sakes and above all how to pair foods with sake for a wonderful dining experience.

Fukuko was incredibly knowledgeable and had lots of visual aids and delicious food that helped us elevate our understanding of sake. The best part was the amazing sake store nearby that she took us to at the end. We wouldn't have found such a store on our own, and we were able to apply the knowledge from the class instantly!

This experience was really wonderful! She is very well versed with the types of sake and the flavors associated with each type of sake.
She is an excellent cook! Her sushi was delicious and she was careful to explain what I was eating. Each type of miso and wasabi was carefully explained and I really enjoyed my meal.
Fukuko was also kind enough to prepare vegetarian sushi for my vegetarian mom.
