What you'll do

This experience begins from the Appalachian Abbey in Knoxville (which you can find here on Airbnb), where the Appalachian Trail intersects with the C&O Canal tow path. After meeting and greeting to break the ice a bit, we will begin stretching while I give a brief overview of the history and function of pilgrimage as a spiritual practice. This should take less than 30 minutes before we set out along the Appalachian Trail north bound to scale the Weverton Cliffs. We will take short breaks along the way for guided reflections on spiritual themes. The cliffs will serve as a dedicated time for focused prayer or personal reflection before we return to our starting point to cool down and part ways.
Other things to note
Hiking is a strenuous activity and should not be undertaken by individuals with mobility or other health concerns. Please see my C&O Tow Path pilgrimage for individuals with physical limitations.

I spent six years as a light infantryman in the Army, including a deployment to Iraq, where I learned everything there is to know (and more) about walking long distances. My time as a nature tour guide in Hawaii inspired me to teach professionally, which I did for several years after earning advanced degrees in history and theology. Eventually I returned to the wilderness to live out my dreams in an old church near the birthplace of the Civil War.

Where you'll be

Pilgrimage is a kind of kinetic therapy; it requires movement and thoughtful reflection as well as sound bodily health. While the first mile or so, along the C&O tow path, is level, the intensity quickly becomes strenuous as we ascend the Appalachian Trail northbound along the Weverton spur. Breaks will be determined based on group input, and the terminus will be the Cliffs peak and scenic vista overlooking the Potomac River.

Enjoy leaving the daily buzz of stimulus and mind chatter, as you are led along the Potomac into a state of appreciation and surrender to all that is. Logan’s passion for pilgrimage as as means to acceptance and transformation was so helpful and refreshing! His background in Theological history with an appreciation of nature were the perfect combo for taking a few hours to yourself and just letting things go and flow :) HIGHLY RECOMMEND, INjoy!!!

This hike is a unique experience in historical pilgrimages as hikers walk a portion of the AT trail and the Chesapeake and Ohio towpath. Logan provided a guided meditations along the trail that gave participants time for awareness and reflection. A enriched encounter for hikers looking for more than an out and back and onto the next place.
