What you'll do

PLEASE NOTE: MY TOURS START AGAIN IN JANUARY.

Road-biking is a great way to experience the amazing outdoors and great views of the Black Forest area. I’m your local guide to a great ride. No need to look at a map for directions. I know the best, safest and most scenic routes for all levels of fitness.

We will leave the city on small roads and cycle paths to make our way into the beautiful countryside and the hills. We will pass through Waldkirch and start the gentle and long ascent into the beautiful Simonswälder valley. We will then turn into the lonely, narrow and adventurous Wildgutach gorge, riding along the small river, with almost no cars. Experience the easy flow of this idyllic road, one of my favorites. When we reach the Hexenloch (witchhole), hidden deep inside the valley, we have two great options for going up to the main road again. If you still feel fit we can climb a secret little road with some great views, before flying down small forest roads back into the Dreisamtal and Freiburg.

There will be enough time to stop for a rest, enjoy the views and take pictures. After the ride I will show you my favorite biergarten, café and cycling gear shop.
Other things to note
PLEASE NOTE: My rides are made for reasonably experienced road cyclists, who are in good physical condition. You should be confident and comfortable riding a race bike with small tires, 20+ gears and dropbars. This experience is not suitable for novice road bike riders.

Born and raised in northern Germany I’ve been an avid runner and cyclist from early on. Tired of the bad weather and traffic in Hamburg I moved to a small village near Freiburg 15 years ago. Since then, I've been cycling and exploring the Black Forest, Kaiserstuhl and Alsace. I’ve also been doing multi-day cycling tours in Europe with friends for almost 20 years.

I love cycling and I’m on my road bike a couple of times a week. When not on the bike, I work as a freelance software engineer, practice my cooking, woodworking and guitar skills and try to raise our two teenage girls.

Christian is expert about the local region and cycling. He is a genuinely friendly person who took the time to understand how to optimise our cycling tour and to ensure that we got the most out of it. He is also very conscious of safety. I am happy to recommend him enthusiastically as a cycling guide in the Black Forest region around Freiburg i. B., Germany.

I came to know about this ride really late in my visit to Freiburge Germany and immediately contacted Christian to see if he can fit me within his schedule. He was very accommodating and helpful he also helped me hire a bike and while I’m not familiar with riding in mountains he helped and encouraged me to continue with the ride and reached impressive altitude of 851 meter which is my first time ever. During the ride we talked about families and managed to connect very well, this was really one of a kind experience. Further I seriously enjoyed the scenery and surroundings of the Black Forest and the villages we visited along the way. Thanks for unforgettable experience Christian. Ali, Bahrain

Christian is quite honest and real about what to expect. We spoke about the experience and I told him that I was very keen on going even though I’m not very fit. He was super flexible about the route and good company to keep. It was a really good experience. I would definitely recommend doing this especially if you’re fit, it was surreal.

Christian is one of the most amazing people I've met through airbnb experiences. Hes extremely professional, very flexible and understanding. I had booked this tour with him stating my fitness levels were all time low, despite that he tailor made the route for us, which covered some of the best routes. He helped us find a place to park as we arrived in freiburg, arranged cycles for us, sat us down and charted our cycling map. He made test ride our cycles to ensure everything was fine. Gave us suggestions on how he will go about giving directions. While cycling he stopped every now and then to ensure we were okay. He also encouraged to keep going when I read finding it difficult to go further. I would totally recommend Christian. Hes amazing and I hope more and more people take his tour as its worth it. Christian I will come back next year with better fitness levels and ride on higher inclines too! Thank you once again!
