What you'll do

You'll be given the warmest welcome as you step into our awesome upcycled world of furniture, textiles and art that is Studio 6:17. Settle in, get comfy and meet the other guests before getting creative.

Rain, snow or shine we will be having a good time!

This is a fun and relaxed learn-to-sew class, perfect for total beginners or those who would like a refresher on using a sewing machine.
You'll learn about the different parts of the sewing machine and using appropriate threads, needles and textiles. You will be winding the bobbin, threading the machine, sewing straight lines, scribble stitching, reversing, turning corners, free styling and finishing seams.
We'll be using preloved curtains for your tote; we love upcycling, but feel free to bring any special medium weight fabric you have and wish to use.
You can then take your hand made Upcycled Tote Bag home and show off your new skills!

Sewing and upcycling are my passions. It all started at 18 when my dressmaker granny gave me a machine. I trained with a tailor for 3 years and started an eco fashion business in 2010 where everything has been upcycled into wonderful new wearable pieces. I work with gifted, donated and textiles rescued from landfill. I never ever buy new.
I feel blessed to have the skills I have and love nothing more than sharing them. Learning to use a sewing machine liberated woman and it opens doors for you into a whole new world of refashioning, dressmaking and home décor. The journey starts here.
