What you'll do
Please join me for a personalised farm to table experience at the Nesta Brother's deli just a few steps away from the Vatican Museum & St. Peter's Square.
Learn about Italy’s old-world food and wine culture while indulging in the farm families unpasteurized artisan cheeses made from the milk of their semi-wild cows and sheep. The Nestas have won awards for having the highest quality cheese in the Province of Rome.
Your guided lunch or “happy hour” will include 4 different kinds of pasta filata (cheese that is made from stretching fresh curds in warm water), aged pecorino (sheep cheese) paired with chestnut honey, Porchetta (a roasted herb infused pork from a 2,000+ year old recipe), Prosciutto Crudo (ham aged for 1 year), Lonzino (baby back rib salami), a simple farmer's salami with hot chilli peppers, salami "Sausage" with wild fennel & Coppa di Testa (an excellent example of Roman cuisine.) Dessert will be award winning ricotta paired with 0-km fruit preserves; It sounds too simple (as I drool on my laptop) but it's better than gelato! These traditional and innovative recipes will be accompanied by Sangiovese and Trebbiano wine, made from ancient grapes indigenous to Central Italy & artisan bread made from grains that the Nesta's have grown themselves.
Private groups can include additions to the menu & options for local beer or cola with 1 week advance booking; msg. me
Other things to note
If you have a baby the bathroom has a space that is adequate for changing diapers

Italy's small-scale farmer’s food scene has been my passion since 12 years ago when I started adventuring from one organic farmer's market to another filming, interviewing & writing about these special purpose driven artisans. I have partnered with Urban Adventures Ltd. to create Italy Agriturismo UA which connects travellers with small-scale organic producers for the ultimate foodie experience in the Italian countryside. I choose to support local small-scale farmers not only for the quality tastes but also to preserve biodiversity & sustainable farming methods. No Farmers, No Party! :)

Where you'll be
The tasting experience will take place at a direct farmer to consumer point of sale owned by the Nesta Brothers. The Nesta's farm is 3rd-party certified by the Campagna Amica Foundation for meeting environmental and socially responsible guidelines that are recognised by the Italian Ministry, which is a certificate that is "better than organic"
I don't know where to start. This was truly a unique experience that anyone interested for food how it's sourced should consider. Pietra's knowledge of sustainable farming was unparalleled and her passion is infectious. The pairings were well thought out and if you happen to run out of wine, you can purchase an additional glass, or two, for a nominal fee. I would recommend this experience wholeheartedly. I feel like I made an interesting new friend. I hope our paths cross again some day. Thank you!

This was a fantastic experience. As soon as I got through the door, Pietra welcomed me with a glass of prosecco and we drank a toast. She then presented me with a beautiful plateful of farm-produced food. She talked me first through the cheeses, one by one, explaining that they were produced on the Nesta Brothers' farm, and had the Compagna Amica, better than organic certificate. She talked just enough between each cheese to make you informed, and hungry for the next bite. She explained that raw cheese, farm produced under the most hygienic circumstances, still has all the good probiotics from the milk. We then moved onto the home-produced prosciutto (airdried ham), salami, and porchetta, which is roast pig with herbs. It was all incredibly tasty as if someone had turned the flavour button to Loud. This was accompanied with two glasses of local wine, one red, one white, and a big basket of homemade bread from the grain the brothers grow themselves. It was fabulous! The crowning moment was dessert. Lovely, light ricotta cheese, like cream with air in it, whose smooth texture was a lovely contrast to the pumpkin jam that came with it. I left feeling full, but not stuffed. Six hours later I felt AMAZING it must be the probiotics,

Magnifico! So far, the very very best aperitivo food I've encountered in Roma! The cheese + cold meats were absolutely wonderful! Local, sustainable, fresh, filled with flavors and characteristics that are so special and native to the Roman province. Pietra is a wonderful guide ... knowledgeable, friendly, easy-going, very engaging and enthusiastic! We could have talked all night about the very unique aspects of shepherds, farmers, locavores and food growers in Italy. Do not hesitate, book this experience as soon as you arrive in Rome, especially because you will want to meet Pietra and come to the Nesta brothers shop for the best picnic food in Roma! The quality and integrity of this food and experience is something you will remember as as a highlight of your trip!

I can't say enough positive things about Pietra and this experience! As someone who is very conscious of what they are putting into their body, getting to eat/drink such fresh Italian meats, cheeses and wine was such a treat! My guest and I had a wonderful time with Pietra; she was such a friendly, caring and knowledgable host. It was Friday night, so we even got a mini tour after the experience was over. Side note: I was not feeling well at all this night and Pietra was so helpful and understanding. I highly recommend this experience and you will leave Rome with a new friend - Pietra!
